That's a bridge
« on: November 09, 2006, 05:16:07 PM »

The 'Millau Viaduct' (French: le Viaduc de Millau) is a cable-stayed road bridge that spans the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France. Designed by French bridge engineer Michel Virlogeux in collaboration with British architect Norman Foster, it is the tallest vehicular bridge in the world, with one pier's summit at 343 metres (1,125 ft)

I've seen pictures of this bridge before and every time I see it I always think of a "Public Safety Officers" nightmare. I can just imagine an accident (mass casualty)/fire/haz mat incident somewhere near the middle of this bridge. How do I get water, how do I get vehicles off this bridge that are already on it, if med-evac is needed is there enough room for them to land, what happens to the integrity of this bridge under a fire/haz mat incident, and the list goes on, and on??? You're right, ain't giong to happen. [smiley=nervous.gif]

That close-up shows me more of what I feared. It would be a nightmare to get cars off of that bridge if you had to turn them around and send them back in the direction they came. Eighteen-wheelers would be S.O.L.

As point of reference for the Cripple Creek gang, the Royal Gorge Bridge is 1053 feet high.
