Hi All,
I haven't post much over the last few years but I try to keep an eye on things from a distance. I do have some pretty big news that I really want to share with everybody.
Just over four years ago, my wife Donna and I decided that we would try and adopt a child. I have three from my first marriage, now 25, 21 & 18. Donna had never had children and we decided that we would try and adopt. After taking the Massachusetts adoption classes and putting our complete lives on paper by answering every possible question about ourselves, we were approved and waited to be matched with a child. We always assumed that we would adopt an older child say 5 to 8 years old.
After waiting for about a year I received a call that a baby girl, 4 weeks old and still in the neonatal unit, would need a foster/pre-adoptive family. There were no guarantees that she would be free for adoption but there was a possibility. We decided to take the chance. 3 weeks after that she came home with us and has been with us since.
This past Summer Donna and I spent vacation in court working with the state to get the Bio-Dads rights terminated. Sad long story, I feel for the Bio-Dad but this needed to be done. With this completed our baby girl was finally free for adoption. The scary part has been that at any time a family member could have come forward and taken her from us. This has made for a long, stressful at times, two years.
The other part of this story is that Danielle was born with Cerebral Palsy, Donna has taken our little Miss to over 200 appointments, she has a team at Children's Hospital in Boston as well as local PT & OT's. She is progressing at an incredible rate, even started dance class about a month ago.
This has been a tough year with losing both my mother and last week Donna's father. But I wanted to share this because I have been so blessed even with the sorrows we've been through, life is good and on Friday our little Gal becomes officially ours! My son, daughters and family will be at the Court House to witness Danielle become Danielle Baird. Donna and I are so happy. It's been a long road but so worth it.
So I wanted to share it here, with friends I've made here since I joined this site in 2005 and others yet to be made.
Thanks for taking the time to read though this post and letting me share such a happy event with everybody.
Ed
