New to Forum - input on next mods
« on: November 24, 2013, 02:47:45 PM »

Relatively new to forum - been lurking awhile.

Looking for some thoughts / opinions on next set of mods.

I have 2012 RG CVO 110 with only work done so far being de-cat, SE race tuner, V&H 2-1-2 and Fulsac inserts.

Looking for some more low end power off the line. Looking at the many posts on similar topic seems like upgraded cams, replace lifters while I'm in there and some head work?

Am I heading in right direction?

What rpm do you ride most of the time, where do you shift?  Lots of good cams out there and headwork will help also.

Here is the CVO with the S&S 583 cam. Not my style of power at all but if you want a stump puller this works. IT will not fit every riding style , I did not pull the run out very far as the engine is done making power.

Most that want low end grunt are happy with the stock 255s

No headwork required, .030 cometic, S&S 583's will make noticeable butt dino. Looking for bigger #'s? I got Feuling 574's, 5.3 jects & 10:1 120/123. It really depends on what RPM you spend most time at.

A full LED neon light kit, Head to tail light. Malty color with strobe option.  :huepfenjump3: ;)    On a serious note, do your suspension first. Spend the $$ on that. You wont believe the bang for your buck with this upgrade.  I did Works front and rear, and I kicked my self for doing it a few years after I bought the bike. should of done it first. Cheers.

So are you really looking to mod the bike or are you really trying to sell it?

Thanks for the serious replies thus far. Very helpful.

In reply to Sherlock Holmes (s) - I am trying to sell - but am honestly very torn. If I can't sell will be doing mods in Spring. Thanks for your interest.

X2. I have made several 3k+ trips loaded with luggage and passenger and the 255's with fulsac stage one map, 1.75 baffles, HD freeflow /K&N air filter/ no cat stock head pipe,  have loads of low end grunt. Best of  all  no dyno  time. If you usually don't run above 5000RPM that will do the job. I have never needed more power than I have, even passing a 30 foot 5th wheel  doing 85MPH up hill. ( and that was when it was stock) Hit a little over 100 in 5th shift into 6th, stayed at 100 for about 3 miles just to get away from traffic. JM2 cents, CAHDBIKER

many weak points in this engine and the two I would address immediately would be the cam bearings and the lifters.  YOu can do these at the same time as a cam swap.  I also agree on the suspension, but would first spend the money on replacing lifter and cam bearings as these can grenade an engine when they fail, which unfortunately has happened to a few members on this board.

Also, when you have the cam chest out measure the crank runout.  Anymore than 0.005 and you should replace or rework the crank.
