Fork lock removal
« on: November 24, 2013, 08:18:05 PM »

I need to adjust my bars and don't see how the fork lock comes off to let me remove the dash panel. I looked for the little pin under the switch like in past years models and I didn't see one. I'd rather shoot myself than have to go to my stealer and pay them $120 an hr. While they charge me 3 hrs. Labor for a 30 minute job.

It's a ’14 ultra( FLHTKSE)

Aussie, that link it talking about older touring models. The 14's are different.

The wallet is packed. While being careful, the stealer still got $60,000 (yes, that's sixty thousand) from me last year.
Lots of family riding and makes Christmas easy. Oh, and I'm addicted to chrome, trying to feed a $100 a week habit....

Ouch! Addiction to chrome is a hard habit to give up.  Maybe the YouTube video will help you save some $$$ to help feed that chrome habit!   :vrolijk27:

The 14's are the same. They still have the small tab to press while turning the key past the unlock position.

Ok,I've spent the whole day on this and other things and I have the answer. On the the CVO ultra and trike the dash panel is screwed on each side and slides out from under the info system and the fork lock after you un screw the gas cap cover and the gas cap and move it back out of the way. A cutoff Allen wrench gets the back side of the bar clamp.
If that doesn't allow you to adjust the bars you have to take the front fairing off and remove the ENTIRE Infotainment system. Called the dealer and he said bring it in and he would do for free so I'm on my way.

You can't beat that price....good luck and glad the dealer came through for ya.  Really, they should have offered to adjust the bike to fit you free in the first place including adjusting the bars.

You do not need to remove the fork lock on the Rushmore CVO RG, at least not on the 2016 model. That being said, I sure would like to remove the fork lock so I could reinstall that chrome horseshoe without breaking it...has anybody got any insight into removing the lock?

In my 2014 touring manual it states ( I didn't see anything different in the CVO supplemental):

1. Remove main fuse
2. Insert the ignition switch key and turn to the UNLOCK position. Leave the key installed.
3. Rotate the knob to FORK LOCK.
4. Press and hold the release button at the bottom (left side) of the knob, and turn key 60 degrees counterclockwise.
5. Lift knob to remove. Spring will drop out if bore at underside of knob when removed.

It goes on to remove the actual switch but I don't think that is what you wanted.

I got the chrome horseshoe back in place but I was very afraid I was going to damage it.
The 2016 CVO doesn't have an "ignition switch" like the older models. It has what they call a fork lock and it doesn't come out with the key and tab

See Greg's post above.  The fork lock has been the same since the Rushmore bikes came out in 2014.  Where his post says insert the ignition key, it should have said insert the fork lock key.  A 2016 FLTRUSE has the same fork lock as the other Rushmore bikes.  Take a closer look and see if there isn't a small tab under the left side of that knob.
