Last March while at bike week I had a set of J&M headsets installed in our helmets. Took our HD Boom headsets out. Boy was that a HUGE mistake. The J&M's sound quality was nowhere close too the HD headsets. Distorted horribly. The mic's almost had too be down your throat too activate VOX. I waited till we got home too contact J&M.
After about a dozen phone calls and emails, contacting Better Business Bureau, and contacting Arizona State Attorney General, I got my money back..........hope this gives you a idea what I think of J&M.
I've used J&Ms for over ten years on various bikes and helmets. Right now I have the Harley Headset, because it came with the bike I'm riding. I've found both to be fairly equal, so far.
BTW: I bought a pair of Ed Sets a while back and will not buy them again. The first earphones didn't work, so he sent me a replacement. Ed's service is good. But, that said, they felt more home garage built and cheaper. Perhaps they've improved in the last 8 years, so I'll reserve final judgment on Ed Sets.
The only downside with the Bluetooth is no CB. I believe the CB is superior to Bluetooth in many ways. Most importantly, greater transmission distance and a better chance of being able to communicate with other CB users. I'm surprised at how few use this valuable tool considering many CVOs come with them stock. It really helps when riders at the back of a group can let the others ahead know if there is a problem. Too many times the riders at the head of a group are miles down the road before they realize they've lost one of their own. CBs are great tools, used properly.
I'd say J&M are a good bet. One of my friends swears by the new HD headsets. He said the earphones are smaller, clearer sounding and work much better than the units from just a few years ago. But, that's just his opinion. Good luck picking one that works for you.
