Is there a question there?
You have been a member since 2009, did you miss all the post about the 110's?
It has been my experience that all 110's are great, till they have an issue.
It's not a question whether there will be a problem, it's a question of when.
That "when" can be easily managed by being proactive in maintenance.
That info is on the site, easily accessed using the search function.
Good luck!

Good answer SBB. To answer your question so you don't have to spend a lot of your time reading old post. YES, a lot of us are getting a lot of miles without any trouble from the 110 motor. You have to remember the posts with engine problems and or problems in general pertain to a very low percentage of CVO's and there 110 engines. You really don't hear about the thousands of trouble free bikes. When the snow clears just ride it like you stole it and most important, THANK GOD you are physically able to ride. If it breaks fix it or turn it into a warranty claim and enjoy your bike!

I have a 2008 Ultra Classic  110 Screamin Eagle. At aprox. 21,000 miles the front connecting rod bearing started making noise. When they got into it they found that the rod bearing was going and the rear exhaust cam fallower had gone bad and damaged the cam. They also found the cam chain shoes worn out. Good thing I had an ESP in place. They basicly rebuilt the engine for 50 bucks. I ride it like an old lady and about half the time two up.

I wonder, how many people that are racking high mileage use their bike for commuting? I commute on mine and get stuck in traffic too often. I am thinking about getting a JIMS parade fan and I heard that helps. I have had mine shut off a few times. I am sure the overheating is far worse than dogging it. I ride her to the redline every now and then by never past.

What part of the engine is most negatively affected by this type of overheat? I had her since July and already have 6K miles and I am all about preventative work. The bassani 2/1 and tune did wonders, minus a little decal pop and I will have the fan by next summer (anyone have a better suggestion for that than the JIMS fan?)

I know there are countless threads on overheating, just wondered how it applied to longevity.

I have almost 83 000 KM in almost 3 years. I only use her for pleasure rides. I have taken a couple of long trips and weekend runs. I ride hard and not gentle with twisting my wrist. I have not had any major engine work done but did have all gaskets replaced to stop an oil leak. I do hear the engine/lifters getting louder but she seems to still be pulling strong.

My buddy with a 2011 CVO Convertible at 60 000 KM had his engine replaced due to a lifter splitting in half. We where on our way to Sturgis this year when he limped into Black Hill H.D. It sounded like a sludge hammer....BANG BANG. and the more you gave it gas the faster the banging got...ish. Well at least he got a new motor for $50.00 buck plus tax.

i use the hd fan - it works

other fans are probably cooler and probably look better, but its the second bike i put the stock hd fan on and when its hot it comes on and cools the engine right down

The most prevalent issue with the '09 and up 110's has been lifters failing and taking out various components, or the entire engine.  If you have the extended service plan and have not made mods to the engine, you can just ride it until something happens.  If you want to be proactive and don't mind spending the money, my personal opinion is to examine the cam chest for lifter wear, oil pump wear, and cam chain shoes.  If you're doing that, replace the lifters with something like the S&S and be done with it.

You should not HAVE to do this to a $38,000 bike, but that is the reality of owning a modern HD Twin Cam.  Some people can ride them for 50K and not have a minutes trouble, but there have been too many reports of lifter failures around the 30K mark to make me comfortable with just ignoring it.
Couldn't have said it better myself...
And don't forget the front rod bearings (you'll want ESP for that)

38,000 on my 08 CUSE3. Replaced cams, lifters, cam chain tensioners, primary chain tensioner, and compensator. However, being a trike conversion, the engine is under additional stress turning a pair of 225X15 tires and pulling a trailer. Always 5,000 mile services. Mobile 1 in engine and Redline in other holes.

I just trade mine in for new before 35,000 miles, however the only problem with my 08 was an oil leak at the staider plug.

I ride a 2007 model and now I have 43000. I didn't have any serious problem, only a regulator to change and a burnt main ignition switch.
I have changed lifters and cam bearings for prevention. I ride it everyday and most of the time inside town so with traffic jam and the heat which goes with it. I'm using a true dual exhaust to avoid the excess of heat. Just be carefull with hydraulic tensioner which can be destroyed at 34000 (mine were).

Yes, my tensioners were also shot at 38,000.  I was always told that the hydraulic ones would last much longer then the old spring load. However, I got 40,000 out of my old spring load on my 2000 Heritage Springer.

Regular maintenance on my '10 SEUC.  81K miles, lost a lifter and ended up with a complete rebuild, including crank and pistons.  ESP runs out next December.  Will probably put in aftermarket lifters, cam, etc. at that time.  If lifter hadn't failed, I expect the motor would have gone 150K+.

Had lifters go out at 30K and ruin engine. Had engine rebuilt with new cams. Now 47K and runs fine. I'll replace lifters at 55K to be safe.
