iPod Connector.
« on: December 24, 2013, 04:01:24 AM »

Hi there

Silly question but today for the first time I connected my iPod Nano 4th generation (not the one that supplied with the FLHXSE3) to the connector in the right saddlebag.

Connects no worries, plays etc. as it should, but the connector that comes from what appears to be some type of barrel connection under the flap to the 30 pin connector is upside down. As in with the iPod connected the screen is face down, or do they all sit that way. I don't want to twist it around 180° and damage something. It's no big deal, but if someone has an answer it would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

EDIT: Can anyone tell me how it unplugs? as in straight pull unplug or screws on and off?

Hi there

I'd like to revisit my OP again. Today while cleaning I decided to remove the iPod and connect it to my laptop to upload some more music. It's been sitting in its pouch, zipped up and safe since I started this post last year.

I noticed a couple of small fragments of black plastic in the bottom of the pouch and on closer inspection also noticed one of the tabs you push to disengage the iPod from the connector was floating free in its spot.

Its no big deal. I'll work out a way to fix it, but has anyone else had this problem. It appears to me that the two plastic halves of the connector are not meeting correctly interfered by the OD of the cable where it enters the plastic housing?

Cheers

That cable is very fragile.  Very easy to break it.  Don't twist it,, when you close the lid it sits in there facing up.  When you remove or connect your iPod,, be very gentle with it.  I broke mine already and had to replace it.  The pieces you squeeze fell right out of it. I did replace mine.  Really a POS.    Just saying.     Stuart.

Hi there

Yes I agree, not very well made for a component that would be used semi regularly. Could you please explain how the cable disconnects/unplugs as in my original post?

I can't seem to find an answer to that question as in does it just unplug (straight pull) or twist apart etc  $135.00 here in Australia to replace.

Cheers

If I remember correctly, it pulls apart.  I had mine replaced under warrantee.  Wasn't too hard.  The other end is what you have to be real careful with.

i had the connector where the ipod plugs in break.  because you have to push in the sides for it to connect/disconnect, what i did was to get a cheap 30 pin dock extension adapter (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Patuoxun-Exension-Extender-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B008R68DFS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1400675685&sr=8-2&keywords=ipod+30+pin+extension) and connected that to my cable.  used some heat shrink to really hold it together.  you will find that it is easier for the ipod to get disconnected, but i never had any problem with it losing connection.

Yup, had mine disintegrate twice while sitting there untouched.

Hi there
Got to agree with you cvostu, for a bike that retails here in Australia for well over $45K - the quality of this component is far from satisfactory. In fact there are other small issues that I wont bring up here but the plastic housing that retains the actual connector is definitely a POS!!

Cheers

Do you hear less quality of sound using BT as opposed to being "hard wired"?
