A trip to the dealer is necessary to pair them.

I can't see where anyone mentioned the starter button itself.   If you do work on your own bike it might be wise to check into getting the shop manuals for your model.   I believe there is a nine volt battery in the smart siren.  I don't have any idea if this would effect the fobs or not.

The battery in the siren shouldn't affect the ability of the actual security module to "see" the fobs.  It is only there to power the siren in case the vehicle battery is disconnected, say by a thief cutting the battery cable.  And it's highly unusual for both fobs to suddenly become "unpaired" for want of a better word.  I think I'd go back over the battery install in the fobs to make sure the battery is installed correctly and is actually a good battery.  Some of the stuff on the shelf at your friendly hardware or drug store is old before you buy it.

This situation is one more reason why I still prefer the old fashioned fobs with the buttons that let ME decide when I want my security system to be armed.  I'm getting tired of all the nanny mentality to automate things because some people can't seem to handle simple tasks anymore.  We will have drive itself cars in the not distant future, where we can trust the same sort of computers and networks that have been so problematic and hackable in other areas to keep us on the road pointing in the right direction without running over or being run over by anything.  I can't imagine any downside to that scenario, right?

I am going out on a limb here, but I bet that isn't the first time they have uttered those words! That and "they all do that" are some of their favorite! Happy new year and glad it was an easy fix.

Just one more thing that may be related, I also have a 2012 CVO Ultra and with just 700 miles on the clock, the voltage regulator failed intermittently, which meant the battery was being charged .......occasionally !! Your dealer will be aware of a replacement program, under warranty .

Cheers

that 'cuz they have their eyes shut  :huepfenlol2:

Had the same thing happen to mine once and never really did figure out why ??
As a side note, do yourself a favor and write down the date you changed the FOB batteries and change them at about the same date annually.
