Road Zepplin
« on: November 15, 2006, 11:50:04 AM »

Has anyone out there put a road blimp seat on  a SEEG???   I know the front will ride up the console,  but does it scratch anywhere????   Any tips to prevent any damage???  Any pics would be helpful....
Thanks,

Beagle, had the leather one on my 04 SEEG. It ran up the tank and scratched the heck out of the tank. Had to wet sand and buff the scratches out of the tank. Some were so deep they are still there.

Tonight my dealer had a 30% off sale on seats.  I bought the Sundowner seat for the FLHX (Street Glide) which is the seat that fits the 05 SEEG.  Boys and Girls....it is an outstanding comfort change.
I am happy and the wife is happy....it fills great and we just sat on it in the garage.  ;) The Sundowner seat for electra glides does NOT fit the SEEG....I bought that first but it rode up too high on the tank and would have scratched the tank panel.  I assume that is the problem with the Zepplin you are referring to.  Anyway I am extremely glad I bought the Sundowner...so far.
Great night at Killer Creek.....great prices, live music and free  [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

That's what I was afraid of,   but this is the last ditch effort to keep the bike,  or stop riding altogether.  Back problems suck!!!  If anyone has pictures,  I'd like to see them......maybe I can mod the seat or the tank to prevent any damage.  I'd love some input......
Thanks,

Beagle,  Change the tank console to a FLHTC and the seat will fit. Like TC said use the plastic to protect the tank.

TC,
I just had a conversation w/ Mrs.Beagle about that very thing (don't you love how great minds think a like)......Anyway,  where can I get some of that stuff?????  I have some samples of a frosted type here,  but I think I'd like to make it as un-noticable as possible.  I'd rather see a little clear "tape" than a butt load of scratches.  A LITTLE HELP HERE!!

hogasm,
No dice,  I switch back and forth between low pro seats and long distance seats.  Don't want a stock ultra console....there has to be a way!!!

I'm guessing that it's the same thing as my situation. Get the seat for the Road King, not the Electra Glide. I've got the Pillow Look for the R / K and it does not extend up the tank like the E / G does.

Hey Beags - I strongly suggest you borrow a Zepp to try before you buy - by all means put the protective tape or whatever on there temporarily to prevent damage but you have to ride a couple hundred miles as you normally would (2 up) to make sure you can live with it.

I just couldn't get on with mine - yeah it isolates you from road vibes etc but it also removed the seat of the pants feel for riding we need sometimes

Somehow I just didn't feel "located" - kinda difficult to explain I guess

Plus it pushes you up a lot so depending on leg length etc that might be an issue too

Cheers

Dave,
Thanks for the info,  but I only need it for long rides and will switch to my 03 SERK seat for around town.  I need the isolation (bad back).  As far as legs go........no worries....I'm all legs.  In fact,  I'm built just the opposite as Spiderman.....we joke a lot that if you cut us both in half,  and glued my legs to his body,  we'd be 7 feet tall.  I knew there was going to be an issue with fittment and posible damage,  but when your down to your last straw, the only thing to do is lay out a fatty and snort (before you loose the sucker). [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Thanks for your input!!!!
