tell me about your handlebars
« on: January 02, 2014, 08:05:32 PM »

so i'm trying to find a good set of handlebars for the wife's rgc.  she wants something that is close to the stock bar, but with a little more rise and pullback.  she thinks she may like the ones on my 2012 fltrxse2, but hasn't had a chance to ride them yet.  but she wants chrome, not black.  what i would like to know, how do the handlebars on the 2011 cvo roadglide ultra compare to the 2013 cvo roadglide custom?  i'm actually trying to compare the 2011 with the 2012 with the 2013.

i know that the 2012 and 2013 are only available in black.  the 2013 needs new risers due to the bar thickness throughout.  but what about rise and pullback with them?  hd is not very forthcoming in the specs for these bars.  i found a table that had all the specs listed by part number, but of course, none of these 3 were included......

thanks for any help

I have an '11 Ultra but can't tell you anything about these bars other than they're taller than a non CVO model. I can offer to take measurements if you wish.

if you wouldn't mind, that would be great.  also, if it isn't too much trouble, a pic of your wrist angle when you're holding the bars?  how it looks from the rider's seat....

Ekim60,
I went through the same challenges your going through when I was deciding on which bars to buy for my Ultra. After hours of research, looking at pics, reading on this forum, siting on different bikes, talking to the dealer, asking to be measured, and finally putting my seat on a different bike with a set bars I thought would work I finally ordered bars and I'm still not sure I ordered the right ones. I wish I could have went somewhere and tried out different configurations, like the Fatboys they used to have setup at the dealership. After all that rambling, I'll encourage you to take your wife and go get her "fitted" the best you can. Remember its about a total seating position/posture change. How does she want to sit while she rides, leaned forward, back, staight up? Make sure you are using the same seat and suspension she will have on her bike when testing bars. An inch here and and inch there may not seem like much but add up to make huge differences. For some unknown reason not all manufactures seem to measure the bars the same, Cyclesmith has 13's and Yaffe has 12's and from what I've seen the Yaffe bars are taller than the Cyclesmiths. Options are only as endless as your checkbook. Good Luck in your search.

I'll work on that tomorrow for ya. Last poster talked about seating position and all. I have my bars tilted forward just a tad for my liking. I'm right at 6' tall and I'm not sure how that will compare with the height of your wife. I'm also running the stock seat on my bike.

wife runs about 5'7'', and has a corbin classic solo.  she likes the seat, so that isn't gonna go anywhere anytime soon.  the stock bars are just a touch too short.  a little more rise and a little more pullback and she'd be happy.  right, like a woman is gonna be happy with anything :D

Let's see if this helps at all. Please keep in mind that these numbers are as close as I could get doing it by myself and not being able to hold straight edges at the measure points and operate a tape measure at the same time.

Wrist angle. I'd like for them to be pushed "out" a little more but it isn't bad.

Measured from the front of the lower bar in the clamps to the back edge of the grip

Yellow = from the top of the cross bar to the top of the "arch"
Red = Width to the insides of the "arches"
Blue = From the middle of the arch to the end of the grip.
I don't have a protractor to measure the angle of the pullback. Sorry

thanks.  that was most helpful.  we went out and measured my bars the same way, and compared them to the stock bars, and the wild ones she has on right now and it looks like these are the winner.  gonna get them on order asap.

I'm sure someone on here has a set laying around they'd let go cheap.

Post up a Want to Buy and see what pops up.
