Has anyone removed the lowers on a 2013 CVO Road King?
« on: January 04, 2014, 08:31:17 PM »

I am unimpressed with the sound quality in the 2013.  Having ridden a Road Glide for years, there is a big difference between fairing mounted front speakers verses those mounted in the lowers.
Think I'll make my bike look like a Road King, oh yeah, the MOCO already did that in 2014.

I took mine off and installed the HD mustache bar. (I liked the look better.) I would just have to have the volume louder with just the rear to make up for the missing speakers. I can't hear them either way at 70mph anyway. At low speeds I can tell the difference of sound quality without the front speakers thou. To be honest, I continue to go back and forth...as of today they are back on the bike =)

Thanks for the input.  Probably going to be winter on summer off.

I like your idea IROAR .. I'm thinking I may do the same. It did not take long to swap out, so It's All Good to me.

I've now ridden with the lowers off for several hundred miles.  Very little difference to my untrained ear without the front lower speakers.  In my opinion less is better when it comes to the Road King!

Have any pixs? I'd like to see that. I bet you can use the wires to run handlebar speakers. I miss the in your face volume from the bike myself. It is what it is. I maybe should of bought a Street Glide. Maybe I'll trade mine for one or add a detachable fairing and make my own.

Thinking of removing to stop the wind buffeting..... Any of you have that problem?

I removed the lowers and bolted on a pair of wind deflectors. I then added a Freedom windshield... no buffeting. Don't miss the lower speakers one bit.  The sound was not aimed properly so it made very little difference.

I don't have any wind buffeting at all, ever. I take off the lowers and put them back on for no real reason. I ride without the windshield most of the times. I will sometimes use the windshield that came with my bike and other times I have the short version from the earlier year model SERK.

Here you go. I added a Memphis Shades fairing and couldn't be happier.

Did you connect the handlebar speakers to the audio system?  I like the set up you did.

I hooked the speakers up to the same wiring the lowers were hooked up to. I can hear the speakers fine. I just like the way the bike looks without the lowers.
