T-Man 662-2 cams for 110 Softail Engine
« on: January 09, 2014, 04:53:33 PM »

Hi Guys,

I am about to pull off both heads and cylinders because of oil leaks from the Head gaskets and lower cylinder seals which is a known problem with early 110 Motors. My bike is a 2008 CVO Softail Springer.

I was thinking about maybe changing the Cams while it was dismantled. The 110 Motor runs hot because of the SE 225 Cam that is fitted from the Factory.. I believe excessive heat is a major reason the head gaskets and seals failed!

What are your thoughts on the T-Man 662-2 cams? Does it have increased performance through the entire RPM range including low end torque, or is it best suited to the right of the torque curve for higher RPM power? I know to fit these cams, head work, compression and a bigger TB would also be needed.

What are your thoughts?

Best regards,

Aussie.

No
It is a lot of cam for a street riden 110 and with the proper compression, 11:1, it will perform like a hot rod, torque curve biased to the right.
Of course new valve springs are needed and in my opinion Geometry Corrected with Roller rockers and extended tip valves

Hi Deweysheads,

Thanks for your reply.

Is this 662-2 T-MAN CAM the right choice for the 110 S/E Motor, or is another T-MAN CAM more suited?

I'm running the T-MAN 625 cam with D&D exhaust and a Power Commander tuner in my 2013 SERK. I have great low end to mid range performance and my riding style keeps me below 3000 rpm. This set up is everything I need and should be very reliable since the rest of the engine is stock. I am planning to replace the stock lifters with S&S HP's/adj. pushrods this spring.

Hi Evodistraction,

Thank you for your reply..

Does the T-Man 625 have the same low end power that S/E 255 Cam had?

In your opinion, does the T-Man 625 cam outperform the S/E 255 Cam at all RPM ranges?

Are you glad you changed the cam to the T-Man 625?

Do you have a dyno Map for your T-Man 625 Cam install?

Does the Cam sound smooth or lumpy at idle?

Best regards,

Aussie..

Aussie,

Sorry for the lack of info but the engine mods were done by the original owner. It does sound pretty smooth at idle and low end torque feels very strong to me. This is my first 110" engine so I don't have much to compare this to and I never rode it with the stock cams.  I had a '95 Heritage Classic (evo engine) and a '04 RK (twin cam 88") but they were no where near the 110" with the mods I am running. I am biased toward reliability vs. performance and for me this set up seems to strike a good balance.

Huge thread on this on another site. HOG you are all over the board. Why not back up some and list what you want vs the rest of this. At this point you  have asked about 4 + cams ?? and the range of these is huge. You have small t/b pipes that are not a performance item. Tune what you have and see if you like it. If not then you have something to base it from. And a canned map from one bike to another is not going to be anything that is spot on. It would only be a starting point nothing more. If tuning is a issue maybe buy a auto tune power vision and go from there.

255 or the 48 are very close to one another then you start stepping up and with that mods may need to be done for each set up. Simple mod .030 head gasket shave the heads and bolt in several of the cams that you started the other post on. Go ride.  :)

Hi GMR,

Sounds like good advice . I think there is too much information out there and many different opinions.

Tune it and see how it goes, or just bolt in the 577 or TC 24 and that's it. This is certainly the cheaper option.

Out of curiosity, have you installed the SE 204 Cams? Is it similar to my SE 255 or similar to your 577 cam?

Best regards,

Specs you see posted are just a snap shot of a cam. Myself have never used the 204 cam .. Look around maybe you will find some one that has. But many times the basic set up offers great overall gains and are simple. Some cams may work great at one point but may not offer much with further mods or a bolt in may not be great as is and really needs more compression head work etc.  Good luck

Have a look at Tmans 577  :) 8)
Adjust the compression accordingly and use a larger 55/58mm throttle body

Hi Dewey Heads,

Thank you for your reply.

How does the TMANS 577 Cam compare to my SE 255 or even the GENESIS 577/KURYAKYN TC 24D Cams?
