This reminds me of the time I was changing valve shims on my BMW GS.....The phone rang while I was removing a shim and I dropped the sumbitch into a recess in the head.  Went into full-on panic mode.  After 10 solid minutes of cursing, I pulled the bike off the lift, laid a couple of towels on the garage floor, laid the bike on it's side (boxer motor), and shook the living $hit out of it until the shim fell out.

I think I took 5 years off my life that night.

Go by any car dealership and ask a service tech's if they have a borescope you can borrow for a few second and fish it out. While he/she looking at your bad azz ride they won't charge ya....... :bananarock:

" I dropped the sumbitch into a recess in the head.  Went into full-on panic mode."  >:(

Ain't anything worse than dropping a part or tool while under the hood or working on your bike and the damn part never hits the floor............. :nixweiss:

Where did the sumbitch go........I've lost sockets I never did find and had parts drop into cross members while working under the hood and also dropped a bolt while mounting the damn (quick release adaptor deal) for sissy bars and luggage racks on the new scoot,  of course it never hit the ground either, but I finally found it.

In many cases,  the dropped item is a "specialty" bolt, etc. and you really need to find it cause getting another is not just a simple trip to the hardware store :-\

Get a wood magnet and stick it in the tank. Try a shop vac, reduce the hose and suck everything right out. A baby beaver or some termites might work.

Not sure I would recommend the Shop Vac, without making sure the tank is empty of fuel and fumes. Saw that one done before with some pretty explosive results. Pretty entertaining at the time, but then again there was some rather heavy drinking happening at the same time.  :drink:

I am going to try this.  Found one on Ebay fairly reasonably priced that is oil proof.  Figure it can come in handy another day.

So i am not sure what to do here, so i am soliciting ideas....

I was cleaning my bike and enjoying the holiday, i decicded it would be a good idea to get the old dried up wax out from around the fuel filler neck; and there i was holding half a tooth pick.  The other piece went right in the tank.  I tried moving the bike around to get the piece to float by so i could grab it.  After an hour of this non-sense i lost my mind and gave up.  So any pne got a suggestion to get it out or is it even important to get it out???

To start, you need some light on the subject. So,. I would get one of those really cool cigar torches and.......... :vrolijk27:

Shop vacs are known to create lots of static when in use. Prolly not a good idea. We have special ones to use around delicate electronic equipment at work.

I agree, this might give you a bigger problem.

While we tend to get pissed at ourselves when we do some thing like this...be thankful you dropped it in the tank and not in a spark plug hole....
