Hey All,
I just arrived back in FL, from NC, where I took delivery of my new FLHTCUSE2, B & O. All went well, cept a few hangups, miscellaneeous.
Had one breakdown in the middle of nowhere.
It was 4PM Friday, and I discovered I lost the clutch lever hydraulics. One phone call, and everyone scrambled. Davis HD in Burlington figured out where I was, and they called Savannah Harley, estimated to be 50 miles away. Less than one hour later, with me on the side of the road trying to stay toasty in my leathers, I waited. A tech arrived at 5:05PM, and after a confirmed diagnostic, I was back on my way in 38degrees, ready to find a hotel.
Here is what happened. The hydraulic cable going into the gear housing was loose, and after 350 miles, had slowly leaked out enough DOT4, and sucked enough air to cripple the hydraulic action of the lever. I could have addressed this myself, but both dealers INSISTED they take care of it. I think they want a report to go to MOCO to track down the expert that did QC. It should not have come loose, but methinks they did not check at the dealership, or, there is no blue on the threads. I will check it out in the AM at home.
The last run I did was 186 miles, at which time there was no action left. I discovered this when I was coming to the first stop, and when I engaged the clutch lever to disengage the gear, I was still in gear. Some fancy footwork got me into neutral, as I coasted off the road to use my cell. The system had to be bled off, and only about an ounce of fluid dissapeared, but the air is what got in, a no-no.
Kudos to the dealers in this instance, they came through amazingly well. So much for hand building. Other than that, I am ready to make some changes to get some power to this puppy.
I was cruised about 600 miles on my baby in two days, a little chilly, but boy am I happy.!!!!
Initial observations, must do changes:
Power is not what I expected, of course I was takin it pretty easy till 600 miles, but then I went to 4K rpm wrappin it up a bit, but expected more torque. (A fix with pipes, ECM etc should address that).
Windshield is near my line of sight, but may go taller or shorter, or just get accustomed to the line.
Stock seat gave good support on cheeks, missing a little padding in the middle, may have a friend put a bit of gel in it.
Headlamps and running light wattage upgrade.
High beam and spot mod to allow both in high or low beam.
Night time view could be better.
But the big picture is fantastic.
