Tour pack without a BSR.
« on: January 26, 2014, 08:59:44 AM »

I'm really close to getting the new cvo limited but had one reservation about it. My wife doesn't ride with me very much and was wondering how many of you ride the ultra/limited solo?

If you like it go for it, I ride alone the majority of the time and would not consider a bike without a tourpak

ride all the time with a tour pack. when the bsr does go all the better with a tour pack. rather need and have. as need and not have. you can do the detachable :2vrolijk_21:

Detachable is awesome.   Two bikes in one really.  Got my BSR a Softail so I am looking at going without and installing a Corbin solo.  Nice to still have the TP for extended trips though.

a lot of folks ride a touring bike solo without changing a thing.  you could go detachable though as suggested, and even go with the solo tourpak setup.  the king tourpak in the solo position looks kinda goofy if you keep the regular king backrest with arms though.  but you can switch that out for the chopped backrest (might have to do some drilling though) and have the best of both worlds.  tourpak storage, backrest, or remove it for the bad ass solo look.

you could even go even further and get a chopped tourpak for regular riding and swap the king for those long tours that you need more storage.  i didn't go that route, but the wife rides her own so between 4 saddlebags and 2 chopped tourpaks, if it doesn't fit, we don't need it  :huepfenjump3:

I put my TP on detachable thinking I ould never use it unless I was going on a trip and have never taken it off. I got addicted to carrying all my gear and never having to worry about what weather I might run into and I ride solo 99% of the time. I actually think my bike looks better with it on though I realize that is very debatable.

I probably ride solo 80% of the time, use the tourpak 100% of the time.   :2vrolijk_21:

While I do agree somewhat with that statement, it is far superior in comfort to the little pad in the small of your back!!

I keep thinking about making mine detachable, but then I weigh the thousands of dollars it'll cost to do it (change the stereo out, get a decent-looking seat, get a detachable backrest, get all the hardware necessary for the swap) against all the stuff I usually have in the thing, and I just don't see where I'd use it very often.  Sure, the bike will handle better without it, but I've gotten too spoiled at having the space.

Had a detachable on a '07 RKC, took it off 1 time. The only time mine moves on the SERK is too go 2up. An iced longneck Yuengling on a hot summer day, sitting on a ridge with 50mi views in the Smokies, priceless..............did I mention no Barflies?

I'm riding a '14 limited now and have had only 2 bikes in 40+ years without a TP and will tell you being able to reach into one and not bending over into a saddlebag is a very nice addiction that you will acquire quickly.

Had a SG with removable TP and hardly ever took it off.  Ride a Limited now solo 50% time and love the space.
