Tour pak backrest
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:34:55 AM »

I did a thread search but couldn't find anything on this.  Does anyone have experience with installing the larger backrest (with the arm rests) that comes on a king tour pak on a SEEG chopped tour pak?  Are additional holes in the chopped tour pak required ?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I assume yes but.....
thanks

Sorry Willie, my only experience is with dropping the chopped tour-pak on the concrete garage floor. Having done so, I can tell you it is not recommended by H-D or by me. Although it is interesting how well they bounce.

Willie,
I found this thread that speaks of the wrap around backrest on a King Tourpak - 04 SEEG, Add King tour pack with speakers. (you may want to review that entire thread). I would think it wouldn't be too much difference to adding that back rest to a chopped tour pak. Have you just placed it on the chopped tour pak w/o any backrest on it to see if there are going to be any clearance issues? Other then drilling new holes to attach I would think only other concern would be if it would actually fit on the chopped pack w/o any clearance issues.

Willie,
I'm doing one on my SEEG this week.  I sold the chopped TP and now have the king pak,   but the lid was from a chopper so I have to drill holes in the lid.   I have the template (thanks to Spiderman) if you want me to send it to you when I done with it.  Let me know...

Willie,
One last thing,  when your done drilling the holes,  make sure to chamfer (sp??) the hole edges with a countersink (both sides).  This will help revent cracking in the future....

I think you'll find that the floppy pad which hangs down from the back rest itself will be a little too long. Especially the case if you go w/ a thicker seat.

Willie,
Screamin makes a good point.  There is a mud flappy looking thing on the wrap BR that will hang down.  You can always tuck it under the TP (between the seat and TP)  but it may look goofy.

The flap is a separate piece and is stapled to the upper section. If you are patient and careful you can remove it easily.

Many thanks everyone [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Given all your advice I am inclined to keep the stock backrest on the chopped tour pak.  The Mrs.
says she is not so uncomfy to require drillling holes in the virgin tour pak.
I was looking at a large backrest on ebay but will not go for it now.
Thanks for saving me $$$....a hell of a rarity on this site  ;D ;D ;D
