Riding Styles
« on: February 08, 2014, 05:12:57 PM »

As I read more (and learn more) about all the mods you guys are making I can't help but wonder what kind of riding are you doing? I know HP/TQ is the holy grail but how is all the power/torque being applied? Is it stoplight to stoplight throttle twisting? Heavily loaded mountain riding? Wheelies? I imaging it's all of these and more but I'd like to hear from everyone what will you do when you get that "ultimate build"?

Racing my buddies, roll on's on the free way from around 80mph till the bikes run out of gears and top out.  Need to be faster that my friends, and more reliable as well.  Never from light to light.

My focus was to build a good solid mid-range bike with the stock motor restrictions. Also looking for good roll on power with the coolest running motor "longevity".

My riding style defensive/passive, I don't like to be crowded, so why hang around, roll out then enjoy the ride. I feel mid-rang will get me out of way, create distance, then throttle back.

My Mod's were geared toward that riding style and concept.

I guess my riding style is different from most on this site. It seems like most want low end torque and mid range power.
I rode a stock 110 and the power was over at 4500 rpm. It just quit pulling, had to shift to keep it going.

When I am cruising I don't really care about lots of power, but when I want to pass a car quick and I drop 2 gears
and crack the throttle open in the 3 to 6000 rpm range that's when I want it to jump and take off and pull to the rev limiter!!!  Now that's fun! :2vrolijk_21:

It's a HD. If I wanted high performance and great handling I buy Japanese or Italian.

I like the top of the rev band, hence the reason I built the 'Train the way I did.  Even on my bagger I spend a lot of time above 5,000 rpm.  Bike's Stage 1 now, will soon be something more.  It'll be a touring build with low cylinder pressure, but it'll do all right.

So you just keep it stock and go for style points!

p.s. I flew cobras in the 101st (2/17 air cav) in the 80's. Haven't pulled pitch since. Are you current?

Love my HD, don't get me wrong, but it's no powerhouse.

And I guess you can never have enough power, settling with power comes to mind......

make sure when looking for a porter or builder when getting your motor done that its done to YOUR riding style, this question is the exacty reason we don't have "done" heads sitting on the shelf (each set is done for a exact build).there really is no "ultimate build",but its not hard to find a build that will be perfect for your riding style if you talk to the right builders

Rotarywing,

Always hated those hovering auto's (sorry about the thread jack!) and in the AH-1S's you had to choose between having all your armaments or all your gas, especially on those hot summer days at Ft. Campbell or the NTC. Send me a pm if you ever want to do a little hangar flying!
