Are the CVO Bikes 50 State Emissions?
« on: November 20, 2006, 05:27:38 PM »

Hello, first post here and was looking to buy the SE Ultra.  In California, I am having trouble finding one, the waiting lists are very long at almost every dealer in my area, or if one shows up, the premium was $5,000 over the MSRP.  I suppose I wouldn't mind paying a little more, but $5,000 seems like too much.

I was thinking about looking around out of state as well, but like my 2005 Ultra, when I bought new, they had to be purchased in CA for the emissions.  I am wondering if the CVO Ultra is now a 50 State emissions bike?

Thanks for the information,

Dog;
Welcome to the site! The CA bikes have a charcoal cannister that the other models do not have. More importantly you cannot register a vehicle in CA purchased out of state unless it has 7500 miles on the clock.

What part of CA?

Thanks!  Been lurking for quite awhile, but haven't taken the CVO plunge yet only because of availability.  I am in Ventura County. If HD is putting a cannister on the CA bikes only, then I wonder if there is a sticker on them the DMV can look at to determine if they are 50 state legal?

Been there, done this, have my bike registered in Nevada....

The sticker on the frame needs to read "Federal and California Emissions".  The 49 state bikes don't have the CA part.  As for the 7500, Jim is correct.  On the good side, NV does NOT require proof of residence.  I was in and out of NV DMV in about 20 minutes.  Just make sure that you have an NV Insurance Card and your Social Security Card with you when you go.  To make it totally legal, I spent an extra $11.50 and got a Nevada Seasonal ID, which says that you live in the state part-time but it isn't your primary residence.  On an additional note, I get local rates at NV golf courses!

Dog,
 Call Gary at Antelope Valley HD, 661-948-5959, they sell at MSRP! I got my '06 for $500 below and they treat CVO owners a little above the rest.  Wrongway

Thanks Wrongway, salesman by the name of Danny works there and I bought my RK from him in 05 when he was at Van Nuys.  I spoke to Antelope and they are sold out with a long waiting list.  :'(

Duecedog,

Did you have the salesman run a search?  They can search for model, color, etc, and let you know where there's a bike...

I was told the same last year (snow ball's chance), one week later we had the CUSE secured. Another, that I beat to mine got a dealer trade between AV and Santa Maria. I'm in Reno for the holiday, but will ask Gary or Danny to do a search when I get home. Van Nuys lost all the GOOD people to AV a while back. Mr. Mat, Danny, and a few other great people there now.
