Radio Antenna Cable
« on: February 13, 2014, 03:09:07 AM »

Just realized that the cord that runs from the back of the radio back to the antenna mount has been rubbing the back tire and it is almost grinded all the way through.   Can I cut it out and re-solder the ends together?  Is this how an antenna cable works?

Might want to just replace it.  I really don't think it would be too effective after you cut it and try to put it back together.    Stuart.

IMHO, you don't want to make a splice like that unless you have no other choice. Splices are the worst thing for RF cables. If the cable has not been completely compromised, wrap it well with electrical tape to seal it, and tie it up with a ty-wrap away from the tire until you can replace it.

Bought a new one.  It was only $13 at mothership.

Yeah, I scored.   Now I get to take the gas tank off.  Always scared I'll drop it.

Really not that big of a deal. Run it down till almost empty. Then just go slow and take your time. The fuel line is really easy to disconnect now too.

You may not need to take the tank off.  If you unbolt it and lift it a little use a fish tape to fish the new antenna wire through or use the old wire to pull the new wire through.
