2010 110" Build - feedback from the pros?
« on: February 14, 2014, 12:13:02 PM »

I'm starting this thread to look for a little feedback from someone of you who've been down this road already.

My bike is a 2010 CVO SG.  The motor has approximately 30,700 miles.

I've been planning to do some preventative maintenance on the motor this winter.  Reading on this forum and a few others, needless to say, I feel like I'm sitting on a failure waiting to happen.  My first concerns are with the inner camshaft bearings and the lifters.

Here's my thoughts - any guidance along these lines is appreciated.  I'm not looking to do headwork or big bore to 113", though headwork does sound tempting!   ::)

Andrews 54 camshafts
Cometic .030 head gaskets
S&S Premium lifters w/o limiters
Torrington B-168 inner camshaft bearings
Stock pushrods

Of course I'll need to retune again, which is no issue.

Any thoughts on this?  It's a mild build with bolt in cams, but I'm looking for clarification if I can keep stock pushrods with the .030 head gaskets.

Thanks!

Doing the same thing, but with Andrews 57s rather than 54s.  I'm also adding an HPI 55mm throttle body.

I have 33,000 miles on my 2010 CVO Ultra and just finished the following in early January and have only been able to put 40 miles on it thus far.

Andrews 54's
Stock head gaskets
Stock pushrods
S&S lifters w/o limiters
Torrington inner cam bearings
Fullsac DX headpipe w/stock mufflers and baffles
SE oil pump w/stock cam plate
Fullsac TTS map for the above

You can use the stock pushrods w/.030 gaskets and the 54's.

Hope this helps.

  Cut the head .030

   .030 cometic

.030 short screamin eagle perfect fits

set of manley .620 lift beehive springs with the std retainers

if I remember correctly youll need to put a .015 shim under the intake exhaust should not need one

Replace the factory seals with either the ones goodson sells or the ones from Kibblewhite

Run it.......I like the 54 over the 57 in a 110......not as much as I like the Kury 24D or one of my cams but it works  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks everyone.

Jswerve, it's like we talked about the other day...when you start to do one thing, it's so easy to just keep piling things onto the project.

It seems like the Andrews 54 camshafts are well received.  The SE255s are strong cams, but I'm just anticipating that mine will be scored when I finally remove them.

I guess the first step will be pulling the motor apart to get a look at things.  For sure I'm replacing the lifters and bearings.  Cams I guess are tbd, but if I'm in there, $250 is cheap for some extra torque.  And, depending how things look, maybe it'll be time for the SE Billet cam plate and hi-cap oil pump.

I just want a solid performer.  And I really don't want to get into so much power that I have to worry about the bottom end.

Thanks again. All the feedback is appreciated.

measure your crank run-out while you're in there...no such putting money into it if your crank is on the way out.

If you lifting the heads then you should consider have them done.  The stock valve guides are known to be weak

have the compression set at 10.0-1(93cc)& a set of S&S .570ez cams.makes for a VERY reliable mild build, :bananarock:

First thing I did, was check the run out and had Darkhorse do the bottom end.  I wanted to make sure I had a solid foundation for my build.

Tmans 577 would be a great choice with a head skim and .030 HG
Not a fan of the 54 especially with the CVO head 110

Yeah perhaps but so will the 54 unless it is advanced. Would take a piston change to get the 577 on cam, agreed.
Really the 255 is hard to beat when tuned and with proper headwork.
