The verdict is in
« on: February 19, 2014, 09:36:54 AM »

About 2 mons ago I purchased a '13 SERK, had to downsize due to my age & the weight of the CUSE. Loved the little Blue SERK and figured I had a winner. Each time I rode the SERK there would be something else I missed about the CUSE. Long story short......the CUSE hadn't went far as my Son who lives 1/2 mi away had taken it in. Made the mistake of riding the CUSE yesterday when the sun popped out and it hit 60!! The CUSE is now back home and and the SERK is my Sons, at least I didn't give the 3k in mods to the SERK to a complete stranger. The best part is I can still hop on it when I need to have a reinforcement of how good the big scoot rides. How much time do I really spend in a parking lot, anyway? When I get to old to walk.....I will get a hoveround, to old to ride the CUSE I will park it!!

Jimmy

Your SEUC like my 09 and the 11.5 are heavy sum beaches.
We all are adding a few years to our belt and those heavy SEUC's can be tough to move around.
But as you know, once rolling there is nothing like it.
I'm glad your son keeps the SERK close enough to ride it when you want.
When I ride the SEUC and then get on the 01 SERG or the 12 SERGC it's like getting on a toy.
To be able to mix them up is a great thing but also keeps me on my toes.
Either way Jimmy, with the SERK or SEUC you have the best of both worlds.

Oh! Jimmy, I thought you just wanted a second sweet ride, didn't know you where downsize changing. Crazy me! My riding future is unclear for now, unknowing friends and strangers say oh well your CVO bike is gone just ride your 03' Road King. They don't get it. I can't, been there done that can't go back. Road King is/was a great bike for me back in the day but it just does not measure up to the SEUC. Sorry your SERK was not all you had hoped it would be. Even before my accident sometimes I struggled getting the SEUC up off the jiffy stand. Ride safe my friend.

It's always nice to have a couple or three different bikes to ride and mix it up.

When I get too old, I'll be gliding on one of these, which by the way will be available in 2015:

Jimmy, it sounds more like to have two great bikes and yet have to store just one bike in your garage at any given time. That's a win-win!! Both amazing bike, BTW.

I'm blessed with CVO Ultra, CVO Vrod, and Custom Low Rider in the stable. Covers my riding addiction (touring, need for speed, and bar-hopping) :)

We are all getting older and need to stay in shape to ride those 900 lb machines.  Especially over the winter.  I was born just before WWII so I know what you are dealing with.  Have had 5 ultras since 1996 and the CVO is the heaviest.  Best thing I did was to go to the Mid West Police Motorcycle Training school in Troy, MI.  If you want to be confident in the parking lot with that 900 lb beast this the school for you.  You use their motorcycle (police Road Kings) and if you drop it no big deal.  Four day class all on the motorcycle and you will be a more confident rider when you get back.  Do it!!

Took it 2 years ago and it is intense for sure, but in a good way.  Did things successfully I never would attempt (and still don't) on my bike but the techniques are applicable and very helpful in everyday riding.  The only thing that really got my 'pucker' factor up was the mandatory training before we could perform the various braking exercises.  Non-ABS bikes and coaches confirmed that someone would without a doubt lock up the rear wheel during the braking exercises.  So to understand what it feels like we had to approach the stop point at 30 mph, than apply both brakes locking the rear wheel (and keep it locked!) until we stopped.  Not nearly as scary as it sounds at first but it is definitely intimidating.  But hey, now I know what a rear wheel lock up feels like and how to handle it if it should occur - and not highside!   :2vrolijk_21:

I agree.  That rear wheel lock up is intimidating but better there in a parking lot then on the road and doing a high side is right.  Like you, I don't make the same tight turns on my own "motor" but I am certainly better in the parking lot than the majority of older and younger riders I see.  Doug said we would notice how many riders are in over their heads and he is right.  I now stay clear of any rider I don't know.  Not saying I'm any better rider than the next guy but after watching  some riders coming into a gas station or motel parking lots realize how out of control some of them are.  Last fall watched a young woman ride into an event at our local H-D dealer and she handed a street glide like a pro!  Size and strength has nothing to do with it.  If you are riding a heavy weight bike and don't go for training you are limiting the years you could be riding.  JMO.

I figure when I am too old to hold up my CUSE, I'll convert it to a trike.
