Add me to the list of victims of this problem.

Last Saturday I went to stat the Ultra and the ignition switch turned and clicked like normal, but wouldn't engage the ignition circuit. Messed around with it for awhile and thought the battery might be dead (no headlight, dash display etc.), but it was ignition circuit not energizing. Messed around with the switch some more and it popped off in my hand. Got it back on and the steering was locked. Messed around with it a bit longer and was able to get the steering unlocked. After taking the switch off and reseating it several times, I was finally able to get it to engage properly and energize the ignition circuit.

Took it to the dealer (I had an appointment for a different issue), and showed them the problem. Picked up the bike yesterday afternoon and asked about the switch and was told reseated and aligned. I didn't really like that answer, but gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Rode the bike into work this morning and the remote wouldn't work, the switch on the console wouldn't work either. I turned the ignition switch on, and the non-energized ignition circuit problem reappeared (switch isn't working). Screwed around with it a bit, the switch came off. Reattached the switch and monkeyed around with it some more to get the steering unlocked. Finally got it unlocked and after a lot of messing around, got the ignition circuit to energize. Remote still doesn't work, neither does the console switch. Called the dealer and am headed up there shortly (50 miles away).

We'll see what happens.

I don't have a remote. Almost glad I don't. My switch was popping of too there for a while. There is a screw under the decal that loosens up and causes headaches. I used some loctite the last time I did this.  Seems to be better.

Dealer confirmed a bad switch, which is also the cause of the remote lock issue. $600 part, lucky I'm still under warranty :-)

Part comes directly from the manufacturer, so it will take just over a week to come in.

You would think for $600 they could come up with a design that would actually work as advertised and last at least as long as the first set of tires.

I think if I had one of these things I'd eliminate that power lock and just install the old style switch and lock.  I never saw any real need for power locks on a motorcycle anyway, but could live with it if it actually worked well.  From all the negative comments I've seen and heard, I'd say that once again Harley has taken a simple idea from elsewhere and botched it.  They seem to do that a lot.

Keep us posted and update with a Part Number if you can. The tech at the dealership where I bought my bike hasn't a clue. He just shrugged and said he had never heard of that happening before. I would fix it myself if I could but if the part is $6oo I'll let the warranty cover it.

The power locks are nice to have, but far from being a necessity. It's convenient to be able to park, throw everything in the bags (or get stuff out), and push one button and have all three bags, and the steering lock. The way my old lady packs, she ends up needing to access all three bags when we stop  ::)

Everything can still be done manually so it's not a deal breaker, but it is less convenient. 1 button vs. 4 manual locks. To be perfectly honest, when I first saw the remote locks, I thought it was unnecessary, but I have gotten used to using it.

My main concern was the switch knob falling off, turning and not engaging the ignition circuit, not locking or unlocking the steering, etc., without a lot of screwing around trying to get the knob reinstalled correctly. The remote lock just happens to be tied into the circuitry of the knob/switch.

Mine never fell apart but was replaced early under warranty for not unlocking.  Had to have the new one lubed once when it was hanging up during unlocking seems to be ok now.
