Brembo Brake Calipers on SEUC
« on: November 21, 2006, 10:37:01 PM »

Who has installed Brembo Chrome brake calipers on their SEUC?  Where did you buy them and what did you pay for them?  What pads did you install?

as always....thanks...Scott

Scott, if you haven't seen this thread: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1132373412, it might be worth a read for ya.  I have a SEEG, not a SEUC, but I put Brembo 4-piston, 2-pad calipers on it last winter.  A write-up of the performance and some comments from a SEUC owner or two are in there toward the end of the thread.

Sorry, to answer your questions, I put them on the front and the rear at a parts cost of around $1,400.  The dealer order them through Custom Chrome, I believe.  There may be other discount sources where you could get them cheaper. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I'm still running whatever pads they come with, but will likely switch to Lyndall pads when the time comes to replace them.

I also have the Brembos, Floating Rotors front and back, Calipers also front and back. Still have the stock Brembo Pads (will be replacing the rears pad).

Also using Russell hoses.

The calipers and rotors are the Gold Color to match my 03 Rims, on an 03 Road Gldie. Great system, bought them off eBay.

I have a set of the 4 piston 4 pad on the front and 4 piston 2 pad on the rear of my SEEG.  They are great I went to QTM for them.  Had an issue with the rears but they fixed it no questions asked.

Can anyone tell me what the advantage of floating rotors is?  I seems like the regular rotors would have a better heat sink design as they have more meat toward the hub.
Inquiring minds want to know....

Mike, the advantage of a floating rotor is actually that they heat up more uniformly since the heat does not transfer.  Also, a floating rotor is allowed to expand due to the rivets when it does get hot.  The uniform heating and ability to expand/contract makes them less susceptible to warping unlike a solid rotor where the edges get very hot, the center part remains fairly cool and the temperature differences that result in between.  The movement allowed by the rivets on a floating rotor also allows the braking surface to better align with the pads providing more braking force.

On the HD rotors the rivets also allow the rotors to separate at the rivets and eventually fail.

Well, F.  I wish I'd have know these things were lettin' go when I did the calipers.  I probably would've gone with the 4-pads and Brembo rotors if I had.

Brian....Best case scenario is to replace when one or two begin to let loose as evidenced by the "clunk".
