Has anyone replaced their stock battery on their CVO bike yet?  I am intrested in using the Odyssey battery above. Thanks and Happy Turkey Day!

Haven't had to replace a battery yet.  I usually get a lot of years out of a battery though, probably because I always hook my bike up to a trickle charger when I'm done riding.  I heard/read a long time ago that if you keep the batteries charged, they will last at least 2X.  The small price of the battery tender will definitely pay off in the length and reliability of the battery. I'm a firm believer in Battery Tenders.  Before I started using them, I had to replace the battery every year or two and since I've started using them, I haven't replaced one yet.  The 01 Honda I sold in April still had the original battery and had never even acted like it was going to be a problem.

I just replaced the stock battery for another stock battery on my 2003 flhrsei2.  The battery was in service from 11/02 thru 8/06 just short of 4 years.  About half the time I was using a battery tender.  Although we don't get any freezing temperatures in these parts, the garage gets well over 100 degrees 5 months out of the year.  I am told that heat is tougher on a battery than extreme cold.  Given how long i got out of the stock battery, I am not sure the Odyssey Battery will be worth the extra $

The biggest advantage I can see to the Odyssey is its ability to withstand many deep discharge and recharge cycles, similar to a deep cycle battery used for trolling motors and such.

I also use the Battery Tender (bike is connected to it all times when not being ridden) along with the stock battery (gel) and have been real happy with them. Current battery in bike is stock (2.5 yrs old). I used the battery tender on previous bike and battery lasted 3+ years before selling the bike.

My original battery is now 4 years old. I have never used a tender but the bike has never set longer than 2 weeks with out a ride. The battery seems fine but I wonder how much longer before it dies. Do they give any warning signs or just leave you stranded?

Ditto what everyone else says on the tenders [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The Gel batteries do just go, typically without much warning.

I just replaced the batteries in my 04 SEEG and wife's 04 FLHR with HD AGM...same as stock.  Every 2 - 2.5 years, whether it is acting up or not. Buy 'em when dealer has a 25% off sale. Had too many experiences with the 'clickclickclick....click.................silence'.  :(  Heat seems to kill 'em.  Same with car batteries.
Just my experience, YMMV. (Oh, for the d00dtionary: YMMV= Your Mileage May Vary) ;D

I would only switch out to another brand if it could put out the same cranking amps as the harley battery..    When I first put in my 124" motor they tried to sell me a new battery and high torque starter.   As it turned out,  S&S was on site and told the shop owner that this combo wouldn't turn my stock motor over fast enough to make the bike start.   S&S finally told me to go to Daytona Harley and buy a new starter and buy a new Harley Battery as the cranking amps were the highest and that the Harley Starter was far superior for bikes due to the speed at which it turned the bikes over.   I brought back the Harley Battery and they put in the Harley starter and it cranked over with but wouldnt start with the other battery and the harley battery so then they put in the battery as the shop was trying to show them it wasnt needed to buy the battery.  They Put the HD Battery in and first shot it started.

Not sure the story helps here, but without both of them in the bike together the motor wouldnt turn over fast enough to start it.   I wouldn't say that other combo's wouldnt work out there, but this was something I saw first hand and has always worked well for me since that lesson.

Can't seem to find the CCA rating for the stock 66010-97A battery (not surprising, since H-D doesn't publish specs on many of their products for fear we might substitute other brands).
