The biggest concern I have with one of these externally mounted sensors is possible air leakage.  To function I assume the sensor must depress the schrader valve in order to read the pressure.  Seems to me that a slow leak could develop there.  And if you need to add air as you do from time to time depending on the ambient temp you must remove the sensor.  Probably not a big deal - unless you decide to use the security ring.

So I am not sure if this is something I want to do.   :nixweiss:

The sensor does depress the schrader valve to get its reading but I haven't had any issues with leaks yet. I don't use the "security ring" because I found it to be a PITA because you have to tighten/loosen and very small allen set screw and I'm not honestly worried about somebody stealing the sensor. You do hear a brief shot of air escaping as you tighten or loosen the cap the final 1/8 turn or so. Once I verified that the sensor reading closely matched my high $$ digital tire gauge, I use the cap to make my final pressure adjustment. I just overfill the tire a couple of pounds and then loosen the cap to let the excess air leak out until i get my desired pressure setting.

Overall it works for me and I've found nothing negative to say about its functionality.

Hi All:

Not real excited about putting fugly sensors on expensive rims - you might consider this at next tire change...

From same website as OP.

Just a thought....

Yes, in theory the internal sensors should offer definite advantages.  But as Yogi Berra famously said:  "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is."

My concern here is possible excessive weight resulting in a more difficult balance.  And don't forget the ham-handed way some 'techs' do things.  I've read numerous complaints about internal TMPS sensors being damaged during tire changes on autos.

Granted the external sensors are fugly.  But on a bagger with dual discs up front and saddlebags in the rear i doubt that would be so noticeable as to be offensive - to me anyway.

I don't have any experience with the motorcycle sensors, but the ones I have on my truck and trailer I did not have any air loss over 15,000 miles of use.

Thanks.  Good to have confirmation from real world users.

They are quite a bit bigger than a normal valve cap but, I've had a lot of people check out my bike and I have never had anyone mention the sensor.

When you have a bike as beautiful as that, who would?

I promise if I ever see you and your bike to ask, tho'   :P

Nice to know there are options, too.  As long as the function is good, I would go for the hidden sensor, but the main thing is safety, to be sure..

The whole idea is pretty cool considering how much more critical tire pressure is with 2 wheels.  I can think of two occasions right off where the rider would have been better off knowing they were losing pressure - before they were out of service.

Best Regards,
