Clutch
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:05:08 PM »

Changing the clutch pack on the 2011 FLHP Roadking. Pulled the old plates out and there is no Damper spring or Damper spring seat. Would the missing parts make the clutch lever a beast to pull?

Thanks,
Rick

Did it have the first narrow friction plate that the damper spring seat and damper spring fit on its inside radius? Regardless, I don't think the lack of damper spring seat or damper spring will affect the difficulty of the pull. That's determined by the strength of the clutch spring mounted on the pressure plate. It will affect where the clutch lever first engages the clutch if it's a hydraulic clutch (and therefore not adjustable). If you don't have the first narrow friction plate (nearest the transmission) with the damper spring seat and damper spring with a hydraulic clutch, the clutch won't engage until the clutch lever is almost fully extended out. I just went through this issue on my 2011 cvo SG using a BDL clutch without a seat damper spring and damper spring. I pulled my primary 7-8 times doing extensive testing over a few day period while working with the manufacturer of the BDL clutch using alternative parts until we figured out how to get the clutch lever to grab the clutch early in the release.
