I currently have a shade over 8000 miles on my 2013 CVO Road King. I have been wondering lately if the upgraded 2013 lifters are indeed doing better or not? How many miles do you have on yours and has anyone had any 2013 stock lifter problems yet :nixweiss:

I concur, after reading all the lifter threads here I'm due for the 10K service now and am worried about if the Dealer will check them.

I have a 2010 SEUC and just changed my lifters to S&S premium lifters at 33,000 miles.
Mine never had much valve train noise but after reading on here about the failures I tore apart this winter.  After tearing apart I found the following.
The rear exhaust lifter roller had up and down movement on the pin.  I removed the cams and support plate to change the inner cam bearings and found the inner hydraulic tensioner  piston pushed thru the plastic shoe and wore the inner cam chain out.  The outer tensioner shoe was like new.
I had no abnormal noises, ran fine, and oil pressure was the same.
What saved me was 2 things-the info on this site and the last couple oil changes I had been getting a little metal on the drain plug magnet.

I'm not sure how many post are made daily on CVOHarley but let me quote the most important post put up today on this site.

Until I saw relatively conclusive evidence otherwise, I would continue to change lifters on a regular schedule. In my opinion, while it's been encouraging, it's too soon to say if the latest lifters have reduced the concern of catastrophic lifter failure.

Gadgetz, I hope you have had 10,000 great miles on your bike. Take the advice above and don't worry about lifters for another 10,000.
Should you have to make that change, NOPE, but what value do you place on piece of mind while riding?
For me it's priceless!

35,000 stock B lifters. I also add zinc to oil.
I rebuilt the engine lifters still look great, I put in Gatermans with a wood cam and it's as quiet as stock.

I can't comment on the lifters in question, but I can tell you that I'll be riding with more confidence this season.  I had 30,780 miles on my stock lifters in my 2010 110".  There's only two sides to this 'lifter coin' and I definitely feel lucky to have avoided total failure.  Mine looked great when removed, but it was a no brainer to spring for S&S premiums.

I'm not sure what the recommended interval is to check the aftermarket quality lifters, but if I were in your shoes, I'd be going to the aftermarket at 10K.  If you ride like I do, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere often.  Piece of mind was well worth the $223.25 I paid for S&S premiums.  Not to mention, it came with an added benefit of swapping cams and cam bearings.

This is one that just came out of my 2011 CVO Streetglide at 23,000 miles. Wasn't having noise issues just wanted to change cams to cool the beast down a bit.

I believe this is the front exhaust lifter.

I think its important to note the years. Harley had three different design lifters. The A lifter was ok at best, the B lifters were very good. There have been other riders that prefer using these even with aftermarket cams. Ive read were guys have ran the B lifters in bikes with se255, se204, wood 555, 222, 777, andrew54 cams. No problems what so ever. There an equivalent or even better then the comp cam lifters for the chevy small block (they use the same lifter).
as far as the C lifter goes, you should change them as soon as you ride the bike home.

Ugly wear on both the lifter and cam. Bad deal. Heat treatment issues? Poor fit?

There could be an offset that develops over time between the ideally parallel lifter face and cam lobe centerline causing side skidding. Some lifters are designed to rotate in service (typically non-roller), but that's not likely here.

There's folks here that probably know what's happening and why (POS parts aside). Not me.
