Heavy Breather for 07' ?
« on: March 18, 2014, 03:28:53 PM »

Help, I have been looking through HD for a Heavy Breather Kit for my FXDSE. All the results I have found say I can't put one of those on my bike (won't fit), all of the ones I have seen say 08 or newer. I call BS. Do I need to be looking for an after market Breather Kit? I haven't found any help through my local dealership. I am looking more for placement than power. I need a breather that scoops forward out of the way of my knee, so it's easier to reach my peg and more comfortable to ride.

No, I don't know your answer...  Just wanted to break in to say that this bike looks absolutely awesome!  Was this picture taken 7 years ago or is it recent ?

The picture was taken a few years ago, I put bags on it and also changed the seat to a one up limited reach seat. Put the Kuryakyn skeleton hand mirrors on it. I haven't done much to it, I thought it was gorgeous just the way it was.  ;)

The original part number for your application was 29592-05, and was listed as "For Race Use Only".  That number has now been superceded by 29299-08.  That one is street legal on '08 and later, but still "For Race Use Only" for the earlier models.  I'm guessing you really don't care about street legal versus race use only.

;D   I guess they didn't want to spend more to put the entire description on the box.  "Street Legal for 2008 and later, Race Use Only for 2007 and previous".  It doesn't really matter, all it means is they didn't bother to spend the money to have the parts certified for the older models.  It's strictly a CYA thing in the catalog, but since the EPA doesn't enforce anything when it comes to Harley they don't need to worry.

I've got the heavy breather elite on my 14 breakout, still smack my knee each time I reach for the break. Looking at a different seat or aftermarket air cleaner. Just a caution the heavy breather may not solve your problem

I have the 29299-08 on my '05 SEEG and I have an issue with the chrome ring (covers the hose clamp) staying on.  The double stick gasket will not stick to the back of the filter - despite having cleaned it several times.  The ring will go on but as soon as I tighten the clamp it pops off.  Anyone else have this issue and if so, how did you fix it?

Lenny my mates softail is the same. The AC sits right on your knee (bent) but on the CVO Dyna your legs are straight and you miss the AC easily. Best way to describe it is there is more "room" on the Dyna.

With the original AC rear brake control was optional.

Did you need a conversion kit or any other parts? I did more research last night and talked with the shop and he wants to call the factory because he doesn't think anything that will fit the Cruiser will also fit my Dyna. The new books don't even list it as a racing part. I am tempted to just buy one and see, if it doesn't fit my CVO it will fit my 2012. Lenny- I am 5'4 short legs, my foot feels like its going to come off the peg because my leg is so far out to get around the cleaner. If I can just bring my leg in an inch it will solve my problems. Thank you guys for all your input, I appreciate it.

Heavy Breather for 07' FXDSE?
« Reply #12 on: March 19, 2014, 12:54:27 PM »

I see on pictures that some of you have heavy breathers. I want to get a Harley Breather, not after market but I can't find one that will fit. All the new books say 08 and later. An older book has one 29299-08 that says it will fit the CVO and a Cruiser but makes it race only. I don't care that its not street legal. My parts guys cant figure out how it will fit both bikes with out some kind of modification. I posted this yesterday on a different thread but thought this might be more appropriate. Any help would be great, thanks.

The quick and impolite answer is your parts guy seems to be clueless.  The picture I posted previously of a listing from the SE catalog makes it very clear, the part fits a 2007 Dyna.  You also have a choice these days of chrome or black, as opposed to the original version that only came in chrome.

Sometimes the people who know the least about these bikes are the guys you find working in a Harley dealership.  It's a sad but true fact that many people on this site can and have testified to in the past.

Jerry-you are completely right, however being in Fairbanks Alaska my only other option is to go 400 miles to the next closest dealership. That's why I am trying to get as much info as I can. Sucks. You'll get a kick out of this though our dealership sells Victory, Honda, Polaris and Stihl. Very hard to get a good Harley guy when they are trying to sell/service everything.
