06 cuse returned to Harley
« on: November 24, 2006, 02:01:20 PM »

I posted an issue with my 06 cuse that had stalling issues when cold and would like to post an update on the bike. First a quick back ground on the problem and attempts to repair. Bike purchased in Aug 06 at Harley in Manchester New Hampshire noticed the first day when bike was started that it stalled for the first 1/2 hour of riding and occaisonaly would just stall even after warmed up when coming to a stop. Took it back to Manchester they replaced intake seal bike returned and would not idle at all while cold. Switched to a local dealer where Harley agrreed to install ( at no charge ) a race tune and stage 1 air intake. Bike was better after that fix would only stall occaisonally . in the spring returned another 4 times prior to trip to Sturgis bike was seen by factory rep 2 times adjustments were made and bike was pretty much the same. after trip to Sturgis (bike stalled 2 times durring trip ) took bike out and it would not run at all no power and no idle. brought bike to dealer and they said that it was bad gas? sarted bike to show me and the bike stalled again. Called factory spoke with customer service rep who stated that they were told the problem was a bad intake seal Informed the rep that this was the second seal in a year and that I have had 2 close calls on this bike as it stalled while in the middle of an intersection and turning across a lane of traffic and that I was at the point of calling a lawyer and getting my money back or the bike replaced, it was now 14 months with the same problem and 12 trips to 3 dealers with the factory rep down to look at the bike 3 times and the bike was no better than the first time. customer service rep agreeed that there were issues and that if this was not resolved with the intake seal that they would talk to me about other options. Seal was replaced bike was picked up and after warming up for 5 minutes in the parking lot stalled while turning in to traffic. Called Harley and said that I was all done with trying to fix this bike and that the only options that I would consider were a refund or replacement. In 2 days they agrred to refund the list price of the bike and I had a check within 24 hours of accepting the price for the bike. I was going to get a blue 07 cuse that they had in stock at the dealer untill I saw 3 of the 07 cuse's in the back being worked on 1 with a motor issue 1 with an electrical issue and the last with a stalling issue. I have instead purchased a 07 street glide and up graded the motor and other parts

Sounds like me.  Only without the buy back to this point.

Good to know that may be an avenue though.

Good luck with the new bike, I really like the looks of the Street Glide.

Only question is, what happens to the bike at this point?  Hopefully, they put it out of its misery and don't pass it off to somone else.

Congrats on finally getting the problems resolved to your satisfaction.  Street Glides are sick! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The bike is going to be sold by the dealer to someone else. I think the reason Harley agreed to buy the bike back was they knew that if I put it thru the lemon law they would not be able to resell it. As of right now it is in the back room and the manager says they wont put it up for sale untill they get it figured out?

ultramellon,

Glad you finally got the outcome you wanted, and you've found another bike.

I'm slightly surprised that the MoCo couldn't fix the bike, but then it sounds like they never did the in-depth diagnostics that could have traced the root cause.

In trying to fix the bike the following was done
2 intake seals
a new ecm
replaced injectors
race tune
fuel filter
2 times on the dyno
replaced the temperature sensor
adjust the cold idle 3 times??
there were a couple of other minor things done that I cant think of off the top of my head but they did spend a lot of time and Harly's money trying to get it to run. I was hoping the bike was going back to the factory and then they would have the problem diagnosed. the last thing I heard was that it may not have been bad gas but the coating on the inside of the gas tank may have been coming off [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I know that when I looked at the paper work before I called Harley that  every thing you think would have been the issue was at the least checked and in most cases replaced.
