HAS ANYBODY TRIED ONE OF THE NEW HARLEY OR BAKER +1.5 QT OIL PANS?  WAS IT A SUCESSFUL CHANGE OR A LOT OF SMOLE AND MIRRORS?

Just run the stock pan.. Beat to death topic about cooler oil temps more oil etc. Oil is not going to be cooler ( it will take longer to heat up but at some point all the oil will be the same temp) more oil ?? why its a dry sump engine and its not like you are going to rev the engine to a point it will run out of oil in the pan.  The only upside is extra volume and that is only if you run it at the add line for oil.

I tend to agree. Back in the day I use to build vw based aircraft engines for my buds. The extra add on sump that could be incorporated only bought time before oil reached the same temp as the stock oil amount. All it did was add extra weight to haul around. A good cooler is the real solution.

So, as you ride along at a nice clip everything is hunky dory, the temp is perfect. Now you hit some traffic, and you are sitting. You buds bike is already running on one cylinder cause its boiling over, while your bike with the larger pan is just fine. For a while at least. But isn't modification to a machine improve it in small increments?  Bit by bit the bike gets better and better. Cheers.

The ETMS would kick in long before oil temp would climb a significant amount. Twin cams have reduced oiling to the heads so not a lot of cooling happening there, especially at idle.

 :2vrolijk_21:   Exactly!

These oil pans, IMHO, are just one more example of the aftermarket using lack of knowledge in the typical Harley owner ranks to let them promote very expensive and highly profitable "upgrades" that are basically a waste of money.  You could install a plus 5 quart oil pan if you wanted to and it still wouldn't prevent localized overheating when you sit somewhere for long periods with no air flowing over the engine.  A Twin Cam engine was never designed to be oil cooled in the first place, and after they had severe carryover problems and excessive oil temps in early development they reduced the amount of oil going to the heads.  The only "oil cooling" feature that remains intact are the piston cooling jets, and they only operate above idle.

Take the pile of money Harley or Baker charge for that oil pan and spend it on something that actually cools the heads when you're stuck in traffic.  I'm not sure what the prices are, but I'm confident a product like the Wards cooling fans don't cost near as much as that oil pan.  Or if you really think cooler oil is the answer, spend the money on a fan assisted Jagg ten row oil cooler.  Either or both of those solutions will actually do something.

The oil pan will make for better hole shots and quarter mile times.  All the added weight from the greater volume of oil shifting toward the rear wheel at launch is what does it.

ETMS is based on head temp. As for rolling down the hwy your oil is all at one temp you pull off engine heats up all the oil comes up. Its not you are adding 1 qt of "frozen" oil at the stop light. The extra oil is not going to gain you any huge amount of time to reach a hotter temp..  But hey maybe that is the new seller.. Cryo oil   :2vrolijk_21:

The pan is good for spending money that is not needed. As stated by a oil cooler with fan , something that will really make a change. The fan on engine and cooler.  Or buy a new wet head they stay more stable and the fans are great for warming you up in stop and go traffic.

That's some funny stuff right there, I don't race my bike but then again it doesn't have a four link rear suspension like the race car does to adjust for better sixty foot times. That must be how the Pro Stock bikes do it though, I'll have to call Hector & tell him he needs a bigger pan.  :orange:

Nobody like to admit they wasted there money and purchased something that was intended for a good cause only to make zero difference.  In other words I was one who many years ago thought the extra capacity and the other BS about a 10 degree difference due to a different entry & outlet.  I would have been far better off getting a quality fan or better cooler.  Not sure what was available in 08 or 09.  At that time the heat was unbearable and like many others we looked at various way to cool the new 110.  I think I paid $390.00 with shipping and that included the True Track kit.  They asked if I had a shop & without thinking I said yes so they gave me a discount.  I later called them back to tell them I had a business shop but it had nothing to do with motorcycles.  They said no big deal.  One local dealership had a winter special of installing the new HD oversized pan for quite a bit of cash, no shortage of takers.  Have to agree there are much better ways to cool them down.

If you really want the engine to run cooler, throw out the stock cams, replace them with several of the aftermarket one available, add a proper tunable esm, and get the damned thing tuned by someone who actually knows how. Plenty of qualified tuners around, check out their sites.
Air cooled engines require a lot more tuning and specific fuel % to keep them running as intended. HD has had a wonderful time trying to save their beloved V twins, and now run so lean, with all the attending problems. I've heard several reports of stock engine running a 16/1 fuel ratios as they come from the factory. HD has done all kinds of trick to get these engines to pass emissions, none are a benefit to the owners.
I have an S&S T124, the hottest I've ever seen in 7 years is 230 deg, once! Stuck in traffic in Sturgis for 45 minutes! It normally never makes 200 deg oil temps. My 95" TC with 93hp/98t never ran over 210!

get rid of stock cam and header pipe and add a good tune will make the biggest difference.  Good tune does not mean a canned map!
If you want additional temp control, I would suggest a cooling fan.  Jims make a nice unit that replaces the stock horn.  I little pricey, but it looks nice
