Slip On Muffler Modification
« on: March 23, 2014, 03:57:52 PM »

I have a 2014 Softtail Deluxe.  I pulled one of the mufflers and gutted the shell.  I know Fullsac doesn't provide cores for the Softail bikes.  Does anyone know who does?  Otherwise, I think I can cut out the CAT and just replace the original baffle and see how it sounds.

I believe Rush sells them, 1.75, 2.0, 2.25. I agree, put the originals back in and see, its free. If they're don't have the sound you are looking for, then go to hunting.

Fullsac will install baffles for your soft tail, but you need to send the mufflers to them.

I pulled the baffles out of my stock mufflers.  I cut the CAT off, about 4 inches long at the far end of the baffle.  I notice there is a block in the center of the baffle, looks like to force the exhaust through the perforated inner pipe, to the outer pipe, around the plug, then back through the perforated pipe and finally out.  The baffle, after the cut off, is 15 inches long.  The inner pipe is 1 3/8 inches ID and the outer pipe of the baffle is a smidget bigger than 2 inches OD.  Of course I want to allow the engine to breath more, and at the same time have a little bark, and I don't want to wear ear plugs.  I can't find anyone who sells cores and I would like to keep the stock mufflers and save a few bucks.
Does anyone know if I should bore the center plug out?  Does anyone know if the inner 1 3/8 inch pipe is large enough?  I do plan to have the bike tuned after I settle this baffle.  Any suggestions?

I'd recommend contacting Steve at Fulsac. I sent my S/E breakout stock mufflers on a round trip from Australia and they came back looking great. Stock appearance but a nice rumble and enough bark when you open it up. I've had the stg 3 kit with the 259E cams and the upgraded cam plate and oil pump installed and it all works really well together. I keep it quiet in built up areas but it has the potential to be quite loud which is handy when you need it to be.

I had the screamin' eagle slip ons fitted and I was disappointed with the sound, I had the previous version (around 2007) without cats and they certainly don't compare. I'll keep the S/E's up my sleeve if I need to get it passed for EPA etc.  :confused5:

I sent my CVO Breakout mufflers to Fullsac and they came back looking and sounding great.  I had the 1.75" baffles installed.

Baffles too loud!  Back to the drawing board.
