as mentioned above all road king models have the same base FLHRSE designation
( should the MoCo have called the soft bag version a road king classic or road king custom? yes but they didnt )

the various road glides have had different designations

FLTRSE in 2000 2001 and 2009

FLTRUSE in 20011

FLTRXSE in 20012 and 2013

we may all consider the Limited to be the replacement to the ultra but the MoCo disagrees

after 8 years of FLHTCUSE models we now have an FLHTKSE

as for road king being near the bottom based on the first year of a designation and for road king that was 2002.

it may be pure madness but that's the logic i have used

Aah, I don't think all Road Kings have the designation with SE at the end unless it is a CVO/Screamin Eagle. I do,however, find the designations,as others here, confusing. Guess I've just never taken the time to figure it all out. Have more fun wrenchin and riding. I do like this forum,as I've gained a lot from all of you here.

This is a classic case of semantics.

Yes, a SE still remains in the 2014 FLHRSE for now, but it is not referred to anyone on the planet as a Screamin’ Eagle Road King.  Just ask any dealer or Harley corporate themselves, if you disagree.  The 2014 is a CVO Road King and in my opinion should be listed as a separate discussion under the Custom Vehicle Discussions board.  If for no other reason, for the sake of consistency like the CVO Limited, CVO Softail Deluxe, CVO Breakout, CVO Road Glide Custom, CVO Street Glide, and CVO Softail Convertible.  Otherwise, drop CVO and Screamin’ Eagle on ALL the discussions and the problem is solved.  It should go without saying if it is a discussion on CVOHarley.com, it is a bike produced by the Custom Vehicle Operations division of HD anyway.

Screamin’ Eagle Road King has connotations of an older bike and CVO Road King has connotations of a newer bike (regardless of the FL_ _ _ _ designation), but I can tell I am not going to win this debate.  Besides, I am getting a little blue in the face.

I am a pretty smart fella and if I was confused why CVOHarley.com chose to bury a CVO Road King under a Screamin’ Eagle Road King discussion about specific custom vehicles, I guarantee others will be confused in the future, but if no one else is concerned, neither am I.  Fortunately for me, I won’t be the one repeatedly answering the same question.

Thanks

With the MoCo creating so much confusion surrounding the CVO / SE lineup, I think Naitram has done a masterful job on this site following the trend of Harley designations and as we all know a SE and CVO is one in the same...

Again, Screamin' Eagle bikes are produced by the Custom Vehicle Operation of Harley-Davidson and some dealers call them CVO's and others refer to them as SE's.

Keep up the great work Naitram!  :2vrolijk_21:
