The factory.
Damn, that's a tall one. My wife is 5'7" and gets a little road grime but not any worse than when we had a batwing.

How about your front wheel, is there a lot of black dust on it? My guess is it's coming from the wonderful brake pads they put on these things.

Front wheel Clean back wheel not so much I have put different rear pads that promised less dust no change. The Electra glide never did it to her with the factory pads

We kind of had the same issues and added the Sancho's wings on the lower edges of the fairing and it greatly improved the turbulence that wrapped around driver and caught the BSR. I still pick up dust etc on the bag lids and sides of seat. Not sure how to resolve that.  For the $25 that the wings cost IMHO it was worth it.  I got the smoked ones. They blend right in.

Sancho's wings .com .  They come in several colors, clear, smoked. Ordered and received them in just a few days..No BS. They are predrilled and use stock fairing screws with a small piece of sticky tape to prevent marking the paint. Just be sure you leave a little gap between wing and glove box lid.

I cannot relate to the (dust) issue.  But of all the Harleys I have had,  the '9 SE Ultra "stunk".  By that I mean when you rode it and later got off of it,  you and all your clothes smelled like exhaust fumes big time.

Now,  I have gone to the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally for many years and Daytona too for a few times.   When you get caught up in "parade" traffic with a kazillion other bikes, you are gonna smell when it's over.

On the Ultra,  the same thing happened most every time out.............No real traffic at all.  My conclusion was the fairing "lowers" and the overall effect creating a "vacuum" in the rider area.   My two Road Kings and other Harleys have never created that smelllllllllllllllllllllllllly condition. :nixweiss:

This is an interesting topic. I bought my first ever HD back in June '13, a '12 RGC with 5000 miles on it. It now has around 8k and have recently noticed every time I ride it, the rear wheel, (chrome CVO extreme chisel wheels) the rear fender, bags, chopped tour pak (when on), shocks etc all have this thick layer of dust covering it. It does NOT appear to be road grime, and don't know how it could be. Seems and looks more like pulverized metal flake dust. No other bike I've owned has done this. I started to wonder if a bearing or something is going out. Have lifted the bike, inspected rear wheel for drag, play, brakes, axle, can't seem to find anything wrong!!! Came across a post about OEM rear brake pads being junk, so my next step is to replace rear pads with Lyndall pads. (I brake with my rear brake 95% of the time with engine/ trans braking and grab for the front when more is needed.) Curious to know if other folks have not experienced this...T
