Ideas on a safe.
« on: March 28, 2014, 05:42:04 PM »

I have been looking for a new gun "chrome" safe.
I have a small one but have a need for a larger one.
I'm thinking a good one like a Liberty.
Eventually it would be moved to the Maggie Valley home so it has to be moveable.
I'm thinking 60" to 72" tall, approx 40" to 48" wide and 30" to 32" deep.
A great deal on a safe made in California becomes expensive with shipping to North Carolina.
Gander Mountain has what appears to be good prices but can they be beat?
I know the crowd here and I'm sure there are some safe owners with ideas.
Tell me your thoughts and experience.

My Dad had a Browning when I was a pup, not many choices back then. I was away in the Navy 40+ years ago and their house burned to the ground. The only thing left standing was two chimneys & that safe. He told me the guns were in good shape. More choice today, Cannon & Remington make great products. The one ++ the Liberty has is you can get a custom inner door to fit your needs and I have never heard a bad report on one. I really like the idea of a closet style, nothing but the door shows, which you could easily do in your new house.....not so much now.

Soon I hope.
But their safes by Liberty are basically same price as Gander Mountain.

I purchased a liberty safe a few years ago, from a local farm and fleet type store, it was on sale and saved a boat load pre-Christmas sale type of deal. 23 gun heavier and he**, like the safe very well, not to sure about custom options. If your not in a hurry maybe you'll be able to find one off the beaten path at nice price.

Around here, Cabalas carries a larger selection (models) of Liberty safes than Gander Mountain.  Many more choices and options available...   :2vrolijk_21:

I worked for close to a year at Bass Pro in Myrtle Beach.  They are more focused on fishing than hunting as compared to Cabela,  but they do indeed market several different brand/model safes.   If there is a Bass Pro in your area,  I would check it out too for additional options.

If you can't find one that you really love, maybe this one would work. Right color.

Best advice I can give you is buy one bigger than you need, as I have yet to talk to anyone that wishes they had bought a smaller safe! Also, shop by weight, the heavier the thicker metal used. Having 16 bolts on the door does no good it the side of the safe can be pried away from the door rendering the bolts useless. Check this video about how fast a cheap safe can be broken into. There are also some great space savers available from this company.http://www.storemoreguns.com/collections/gun-safe-accessories
