Should I upgrade from 2008 FLHTCUSE3 to 2012 FLHTCUSE7
« on: April 01, 2014, 02:34:14 AM »

Hello everyone, I am considering the purchase of a 2012 FLHTCUSE7 to replace my FLHTCUSE3. I know the frame is different starting with the 2009 model, so I am aware of that.  When you purchase a product, its not til AFTER you buy it that you find potential problems with the machine.  Like the 2008 model 110" engines seem to eat the lifters around 20k miles or so.  Does anyone have positive or negative comments on the value of upgrading?

Some nice upgrades from the 2008 plus I'd think the 110" would be more solid. I like the 2012 CVO colors.

I went from an 08 to a 12, much better handling and performance with the 12.  If my memory is right, I don't think there is much difference between the 11, 12 or 13.  It seems like someone is always selling a low mileage bike on cycle trader, craigs list or chopper exchange.  Just pick the one you like the best.

Happy Hunting,

Do it, it's a worth while up grade.  Chassis changes are a great improvement.

The 2012's have the infamous "C" lifters that the MOCO dumped after only one model year (possibly the shortest duration of MOCO lifter ever).  If you buy the 2012, plan on swapping lifters immediately!   :) :2vrolijk_21:

I thought the 2008's had bad lifters.  If I keep it, I am going to replace the lifters and install new Woods 222 cams from Fuelmoto.  So the 2012's have crappy lifters as well?  I cannot justify spending xxx dollars more trading in on a 2012 and then having to change lifters as well.  That would not make economic sense to me.  Thanks for the information guys.

The "C" lifters in the 2012's are worse than the "B" lifters that were stock in your 2008 motor, without doubt...  The MOCO started selling the "C" lifters in 2012 and stopped selling the "C" lifters in 2012.

That said, while it's frustrating to have to replace them, replacing lifters is a relatively minor added expense ...   :nixweiss:

It's just a good opportunity to get rid of that EPA cam and upgrade!

Ok, I guess If I decide to upgrade, some of the 2012s may have existing warranty left on them.  I could either get the extended warranty or just wait till the factory warranty ends then upgrade the cam and lifters at that time.  Can you tell I am trying to figure out a way to justify upgrading?

Thanks
