Upgrade Cams and Tensioners
« on: April 02, 2014, 07:42:33 PM »

I have an 05 CVO FLHTCe  and would like to change out cams and upgrade  tensioners. What did Harley put in these for Cams? I am planning on Installing a Set of Andrews#37 Conversion Cams and Newer oil plate and tensioners. I had the #37 cams and tensioners in my 04 FLHTC  95 inch and it ran Very strong.

The stock cams are SE253's.  Refer to the attached photo for the specs of that cam as well as the Andrews 37N (click on it to enlarge).  Ask some of the other guys about your cam choice; depending on what you're looking for there may be some better choices.  Stock compression ratio is about 8.9:1 btw, so if you're not planning a compression change you need to factor that into any cam choice decision as well.

You will get many recommendations (as did I) for the Zippers (Red Shift) 575 cams.  Put them in mine and worked wonders.  Apparently these cams were designed specifically for this motor and they did a good job.  Also installed the S&S Gear Drive to deal with the tensioners.  Have to check crank runout first but not a lot of issues with that back then.  Best CVO Harley made!!!

No vote for the 575's
In my bike the top end sounded like a sewing machine between 2200-3000 rpm's

Your mileage may vary.........

I did not change Compression.  All I did was change the cams, breather, and Put on 98B Slip-Ons.  Bike runs strong.
