CVO stock mufflers?
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:27:24 AM »

I just bought a new '07 CVO Screamin' Eagle Springer.  Since it is called a "Screamin' Eagle' are the mufflers a Screamin' Eagle performance product as well?  I actually like the sound of these, but would like to know whether they are considered a performance upgrade or not.

Mines ('04 SEEG) came with Screamin' Eagle "Touring" Mufflers. As Big B stated because of EPA (emissions/noise) control the MoCo is limited on how much performance stuff they can put on from the factory.

Thanks guys, I guess that answers my question.  They are Screamin' Eagle, but specially modded for street-legal use.  The bike is in the shop right now getting the Race Tuner and dyno mapping.  I want it richened up some so as not to get so hot.  (More torque would also be nice!)

Hate to naysay my own advice, but a SERT without at least a Stage I Breather kit and some performance mufflers seems like a waste of money.

Naysay away my friend, as long as you don't live in Phoenix, Arizona like I do.  Air-cooled bikes here have major issues in the warm weather, and a lean running bike, esp. with the 110 inch motor can, and has destroyed rear cylinders. Having installed the SERT, my bike is running cooler now. If $459 is a waste of money, well I guess I'm only wasting mine. I'm not really interested in making my pipes louder, been there done that. The 110 inch motor is my performance enhancement. Some folks pay $2000 for that alone.

Wouldn't worry about being abrasive.  It's a condition that passes frequently among us with seldom an ongoing effect.  I think probably the comments on the RT were thrown out as being a little overkill for what you wanted to accomplish.  In many cases a Race Fueler at about half the cost of the RT will allow you to manipulate the AF on a stock motor and accomplish lowering the temps a bit.  Will be anxious to hear if the stock exhaust crossover remains as hot with the new setup.

Yeah, I thought maybe you wanted to go a couple rounds  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

No sweat dude, don't change your style just cause I punched back  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

BLM's right, I should have said, a simple download for $139 or a race fueler for $225 would accomplish what you wanted vice $460 for a SERT. The nice thing about spending the $$$ up front on a SERT however is that it's there if you ever want to do something more - - - - - and more - - - - - - - - and more - - - - - - - - -

By the way, I just punched my 07 RG up to a 103 and put in a SERT. The stock setting was 14.5 /1  If your 110 is set that lean you are indeed correct in saying you just saved your motor. Can't imagine what the hell is up with the MoCo. No freakin way a 14.5 / 1 motor is gonna last for 7 years under a    ESP. That must be what their bullchit service advisory about bringing in a pre-October built 07 for a  "  refined calibration" is actually about. Either that or they figure enough folks will do some kind of mod that they can deny warranty on so they don't have to foot the bill on a a couple hundred thousand new motors.

My 110 was also set that lean. Every time I came to a standstill, excessive heat was pouring off the engine.  Now that I'm leaned out to 13.4/1, it runs much cooler. You can view my before and after dyno charts in the FXSTSSE section.

In order for the MoCo to meet the ever-more-stringent EPA requirements on motorcycles, without going to a catalytic converter, they put the O2 sensors in, enlarged the mufflers for more "freer" flowing exhaust, but yet could be baffled enough to keep the noise down, and leaned out the fuel mixture.   I've never had the noticeable heat on the rear cylinder because I had the true duals put on the bike before I took delivery of it.  I'm running the standard "84" map on the SERT right now, until I get it dyno'd at the 1k service.  So I'm not sure what the f/a mixture is, but I'm sure it's not at the factory stock level.

The '07 CVO bikes all have catalytic converters.

I have spoken with a very knowledgeable source who says that the CVO bikes ( 110 ) in 2007 are equipped with Cats
The 2007 / 96ci are not
