Transfering maps around?
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:19:20 AM »

I am thinking of upgrading from a PC5 to a Power Vision.  I have a great map that was done on a dino on the PC5. Can I transfer that map from the PC5 to the new Power Vision.  That map has a warranty, and any tweaks that I need are free from here on in. If I loose this map, I have to pay $400.00 to start from scratch.  Not the end of the world, but would be nice to keep it. Thanx all.

if the map is a deal breaker for you, i would suggest contacting dynojet (i've been speaking with roy hartman) and see if they can convert your pc5 map to a pv map.  i don't think that there should be an issue doing so, but i don't know for sure.

A Power Commander map isn't the same thing as the map in the ECM, and I'd be very surprised if anyone could easily convert a PC map to a full calibration file (map) you could load to your ECM.  While supposedly possible as long as the person had full access to both maps and manually applied the changes from the PC map to the ECM map, I can't imagine anyone being willing to spend the time and effort to do this.  But by all means go ahead and contact the PV folks and ask them.

A PV or other flash tuning system is so much more capable than the piggyback devices like a PC that you would be much further ahead to just have a full tune done with your new system and forget about the PC.

well I have no idea what a warranty on a map is , and you cannot loose it as the PC5 has the map anyone can pull the map from the tuner??  They are not the same though..  without knowing more about what you are trying to tune and year etc hard to help you more.

I stand corrected, it appears the PV folks have already figured out how to do it.

Its not going to work great, as the VE tables are made from TPS and the bike looks at KPA so that is out of kilter, the entire rest of the map is from something else.  I have done it .. like I said its a starting point nothing more.

It all depends on the base calibration. IF the factory calibration has VE tables that are tps and RPM then they can convert it as the PC5 uses those same settingalong with a percent of increase or decrease. Now if its a later type calibration (2007 up)that uses MAP and RPM the conversion method doesn't work. It's called out by Dynojet that way other than they do not tell you why like I did. NO matter what is done once you convert it, its still going to need tuning as the conversion is only going to get you close. So you either convert and tune it or just switch products and tune it.

Steve's right, and I believe that's what the DJ link states.

You might be able to use it as a starting point, but that's about it.
