Hydraulic Clutch for Hopped-up Baggers???
« on: April 11, 2014, 01:22:39 PM »

'Asked for "Primary Recommendations" before and only got 2 replies, so we'll narrow it down...

'Am going to try the SE Spring during break-in of the '09 SERG 117/DD7, but want some feedback on clutches / fluids if the SE Spring doesn't hold.

What are you guys using for a (hydraulic) clutch on hopped-up Baggers???

I don't mind some extra lever pull, but 'am looking for (smooth / linear)engagement ~ if there is such an animal?

Please give pros / cons of the clutch set-up that you are using.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

I use this set up. Works really well.

ClutchWIZ (http://ClutchWIZ.com) to reduce clutch lever pull effort
AIM 480 lb clutch spring
Energy One extra plate clutch pack
Hayden primary chain tensioner

NO slippage on Honey Badger!

If you have a stage 3 engine making much more than 120 TQ, you may need to get a heavier-duty clutch such as a Barnett or Rivera.

Have had good luck with the Barnett Scorpion clutches on a few builds.

I use Barnett "Scorpion" clutch assy. in the heavy hitters(over 140 hp.) Everything else, usually extra plate clutch pac with a SE spring. Super compatible with the CVO hydraulic clutch. Just ask CVO Stu  ;), and he doesn't have to exercise his left hand any more because the pull is easy.

John's work on my clutch did wonders.   Never feels like it's slipping and is very solid.   My left arm is still the same as my right.  The pull is fine.    Stuart.

John, sadunbar,
Do y'all use the SE extra plate clutch pac? What fluid (how much?) do you run in the primary with this set-up?

I run Belt Drive LTD. (BDL) clutch kit BTXP14 and the AIM VPC92T variable pressure clutch kit with a 380 lbs. clutch spring along with an AIM billet clutch pressure plate.  (120 motor)

I run MOCO Formula Plus primary oil.  I fill the primary with 40 oz. from completely dry...   :2vrolijk_21:
