The speedo error is consistently 6% on every new bike I dyno. At exactly 100 MPH drum speed on the dyno they will typically read 106 MPH with a fresh tire. At 50 MPH drum speed they read 53 MPH. Its a linear error. As the tire wears and diameter decreases the error increases.
I calibrate the speedo on every bike I dyno, its part of the deal. I also explain to the customers, if they are using their odometer to calculate fuel milage they just lost 6% of that too. Yes, Doc can be funny too. Glad he was joking, I was afraid to correct him. Lol..

Hey I think Harley is cheating our warranty by 6%.   I have ridden beside metric bikes who also have wacky speedos.

The speedometer on my 2004 Softail Heritage read about 5 to 7% lower than my GPS speed. After reading this post last night I compared the speed on my 2014 CVO Limited and 72 MPH on the speedometer agreed with the GPS speed. So far, so good!

I checked my speedo tonight in my garage and it is "perfectly exact spot on". The speedo displayed 0 and the bike was doing 0.   :D

Yep, Goldwings have the same error rate. Those who have gone "Dark-side" say it corrects the error.
