Bike Alarm Goes Off
« on: April 14, 2014, 01:19:11 PM »

Lately I've been taking the key and fob inside the house when parking in the garage. Last couple of nights the alarm on the bike has been going off. I finally taek the fob out and put in the glove box and she stops. It a 09 SERG, any ideas what might cause this?

keeping the keyfob with the bike is going to negate the effectiveness of even having security.

as far as why the alarm keeps going off, that really needs to be addressed.  is it windy where you store your bike?  do you have raccoons?  neighborhood brats?

honestly this is the first that i've heard of an alarm that just goes off by itself.  hope you get it sorted.

No its inside the garage, so nothing can get to it. I thought last night it was the house alarm but it was the bike.

Guess I could try, but I dont think that will solve it Once I got tired of listening to the alarm going off I put the key and fob in the glove box on the bike and the alarm stopped going off!

sorry, i got nothing.

never heard or seen this issue before.  i wouldn't think that it had anything to do with fob batteries, but it's worth a try.

if you disconnect the main battery the alarm will go off.  what if the bike battery is discharged or
not making a good connection?
please post the cause when you figure it out.

Yup, if the bike's main battery gets low the alarm goes off, and if it gets low enough it'll stop recognizing the FOB. Happened to me a while back, battery voltage was measured as 10 Volts - I had a faulty power lock circuit to one of the bags slowly draining the battery down, fixed the draw, charged the battery  - no more issues. FWIW I leave the bike on the tender whenever it's parked in the garage

IROAR and Phato have a good idea.....if the bike is put on a tender and no more alarms that was probably the situation......if the alarm continues then more to dig into....

I agree Russ, but I'm thinking the battery is either dying or a compromised connection at the terminal.
First I'd test the battery or do the tender thingy. If okay, then I'd pull all connectors, wire brush them; then  spray with electrical connector solvent. It just may be some minor corrosion or a loose wire.

I hope its not the battery. Just put the second new one in since November. I had the shpo check and they say no drain. I stopped using the tender about a month ago. Riding the bike at least once a week now.

Second battery in 6 months?  Seems to me there is something going on. Time to break out a meter and start troubleshooting. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts to it, you have to check each circuit until your sure they are all good.

I'm not sure what's going on. About had as much of this as I'm willing to deal with. Sure is a pain!

Change the 9 volt battery in the alarm siren. It can make it do crazy things when it starts to go bad.
