Wheel Bearings
« on: April 25, 2014, 09:44:46 PM »

Planning on replacing wheel bearings next tire change.  SEEG - 2005.  What are some good choices for new bearings.  Haven't heard much good about OEM replacements so looking for something reliable.

As with so many things it was the models later than the SEEGs that Mother Harley had so many wheel bearings problem with.  Get the Drag parts and you'll be fine.  It's Drag # 25-1394.  That part number supplies two bearings.  You should be able to get them for $25.00 or less without doing much shopping around.  Check Amazon for an easy find.

I just changed mine on my 09 roadglide with 9000miles thought that was early but the tech noticed a little play in them... have changed most of my bikes at the 20000miles mark

Yeah, everything on the "older" bikes is better!!  With 50K on the SEEG I'm wondering if I should even replace them but if the Drag bearings are good, it's cheap insurance.

Once the sealed bearings came out my personal replacement interval was at the tire change closest to 50k miles.  But that was before the rash of crap bearings happened a couple years ago.  For our era bikes, however, we pre-dated the crap.  SEEGs were pre-crap :2vrolijk_21: !

I've had bearing failures on all three of our bikes.  Two 08's and one 09.  The 09 RK had a front go bad with just 21000 miles.  I like the idea of changing bearings when changing tires.  Cheap insurance.  However, sometimes that don't work either.
