Hi Hoist,
Some really useful stuff on your thread re the 110 engine upgrade.
Couple a things.
1. What is DT ?
2. Presumably V&H and Reinhart are already making a True Dual exhaust system to suit the new 07 bikes. Which system would that be for the new SERK ?
Cheers,
Nige
Hey Nige. Congrats on your new ride. Good Luck with it.
1. DT is HD's Digital Technician. It's, I believe HD's network using the factory's server. Software for the ECM can be changed by installing it from the CD that comes with the SERT directly or downloaded from HD's DT. If you use the DT to install, this info is automatically exchanged in HD's computers. They must have a program that keeps track of any thing that goes thru this referenced to your VIN. If you install from the CD and are never hooked up to DT, the factory will have no way of knowing what was done to the bike. You'll still need to carry the SERT with you on a trip, because if you get stuck with ECM problems on the road without the software, the dealer will plug you into DT. I'm not sure hoew easy it is to permantly avoid ever being connected to DT, but if you never are, the factory has no record of your activity.
2.Yes, they both make True-Duals with the dual O2 bungs. Exhaust preference is a whole subject on its own. You'll find many threads about which exhaust is better, louder, quieter, best chrome, best warranty, best performance..... It's a personal decision based on the criteria that meets your needs. True-Duals, however, seem to be the only way to set the engines up properly, have closed loop ECM's sample the exhaust properly, and control the heat issue with these factory lean set-up motors. Other factors contribute to the way the factory has to set the bike up to meet EPA req'ts, but the exhaust and ECM remapping is the first and simplest way to deal with the issue.
I hope his helps. If I'm incorrect about any of this, I hope some of the tech gurus we have here will correct me. I've learned most of this over the past month from this site and talking to many people. This is my first FI bike, so I'm learning as much as I can about it. I've been on bikes for over 35 years and know HD's pretty well. The modern day electronics now have become part of the equation and must be learned as well. Good Luck with your mods.
