Nige,
I've attached a doc below that comes from the 2007 Screamin' Eagle Parts Catalog w/descriptin and price of the SERT. You may want to check here for some of the dealers in the US that offer 20% off for you purchase.

Hey d00d - thanks for the info. and the links.

I was told today that the EFi Race Tuner I needed for the new SERK was part number 32136 - 06A. The link you gave me didn't give this part number, but I guess it may be a different kit for the European bikes (or have they given me the wrong part number ? )

Anyway I went into Chicago Harley Davidson's site and entered the part number I was given and it came up with the discounted price of $179.96 - this hangs very nicely indeed against my UK quoted price of

The information I gave you for the SERT was copied/pasted from the US version of the Screamin' Eagle Parts Catalog which you can get here (this file is 48 MB if you decide to download the entire thing). I don't know if it would be different for the European market or not. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Update on Friday, 12/1: My salesman has been trying to get Harley to respond to my fit/finish issues with no response as of last night (that's two days of working the phones with Harley on Wednesday and Thursday). He is off today and tomorrow. Harley's lack of response says it all. I am no longer interested in taking this bike under any circumstances. It's going to be someone else's problem now.

This morning I FedEx'd a letter to:

Mr. James L Ziemer
Chief Executive Officer
Harley Davidson Inc.

cc:

Mr. Steven R. Phillips
Vice President, Quality, Reliability and Technical Service
Harley Davidson Inc.

Mr. Fred C Gates
Vice President, York Operations
Harley Davidson Inc.

Mr. Tom Perkins
Owner
Dudley Perkins Inc.

In the letter I quote from Harley's CVO web site:

Thanks to Rob who was generous enough to turn me onto a B/O bike in Orlando. Calif DMV law make it almost impossible to register a Harley that does not have the emissions sticker rated for California and a VIN indicates that the bike has been made for Calif. (the 8th digit must be a 3). I said almost impossible: one exception is if I win the bike in a divorce settlement. ;-) Thanks, but I need to find a bike with a Calif. VIN.

Be well,

Clyde
Clyde,
Send a PM to Erniezap. I believe there is a way you can get scooter registered in a surrounding state and have your scooter in Cali.

I am requesting a new bike that has been thoroughly inspected before leaving the plant. I will keep this thread posted with my results.

I have been silent because of the ongoing negotiation with my dealer. I should have an update before Christmas. As of now it looks like the outcome will be a good one.

Stay tuned,
Clyde

This week I am in Maine, where I grew up, spending time with my family and re-acquiring my Down-East accent.

I drove my new FLHTCUSE2 home from the dealer last Friday two hours before I left for Maine. Total mileage so far: 12 miles. First impression: this one is going to be a great bike. Second impression: "she runs 'hot' - she is a real toaster".

I'll provide a full report of my negotiations with my dealer and the MoCo after I return home.

What is up with these '07's, ? Is it across the board with the heat issue, or only the Ultras??

Great! You got your bike home. You didn't say if this is actually a different bike... and I was thinking your '1st impression' would have been about the paint. 5 sentences and no mention.

Part 1: "How I Drank The Harley Kool-aid and Survived - So Far". In two parts due to a flhrsei.org limit of 6000 characters per post.

Background

I rode my '00 Fat Boy to Sturgis in August of '06, visit the Rapid City Convention Center Harley event, see the B/O FLHTCUSE2, and decide that I want one.

I order a '07 FLHTCUSE2 from Dudley Perkins of San Francisco on 9/8/06 after another local dealer, Bob Dron's HD of Oakland, won't negotiate a price below $4k over list price for the same bike.

The Bike Arrives

The bike arrived on Tuesday 11/28. Two defects were immediately identified by the dealer: an area of bad paint on the tank, and inner fairing finish quality at the top of the fairing was bad and very noticeable. I visit the bike and observe orange peel on both the front and rear fenders. My dealer tries to talk me into taking the bike and tells me that it can take up to 10 weeks to get replacement painted parts. I vent my frustration in the first post in this thread.

I write a letter to three senior Harley execs on Friday 12/1 asking for help after no further word from the dealer. The three that I wrote to are:

Mr. James L Ziemer
Chief Executive Officer
Harley Davidson Inc.
3700 West Juneau Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53201-0653

Mr. Steven R. Phillips
Vice President, Quality, Reliability and Technical Service
Harley Davidson Inc.
3700 West Juneau Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53201-0653

Mr. Fred C Gates
Vice President, York Operations
Harley Davidson Inc.
1425 Eden Road
York, PA 17402-1507

In the letter I quote from the Harley CVO web site marketing materials:

Progress

On Wednesday 12/20 I visit the dealer and inspect the bike. Bob, the Dudley Perkins mechanic, is a first class mechanic and a perfectionist who cares about his work. The new tank looks awesome and the inner fairing looks good too. Bob appears to have done an excellent job with all the work.
