2011 Road Glide CVO - Fairing Lower Speakers
« on: May 02, 2014, 08:34:24 PM »

I have looked through the posted topics and can not find the exact answer to my question; therefore I'll kindly ask for assistance.

I have a 2011 Road Glide CVO.  I asked the HD dealer if they could install Fairing Lower Speakers and was told "YES".  A few weeks ago, the dealer returned the bike to my home after winter storage.  I turned on the radio to listen to the new speakers and after turning up the volume past 2-3 bars, they cut out, crackle, etc.  THEY DO NOT WORK.  I returned to the dealer and they can not figure out the issue.  They added an amp into one of the rear saddlebags and the 2 speakers.

My question is.  Does HD make a configuration for my bike to add Fairing Lower Speakers?  And if so, can you please direct me as to the information needed for a proper installation?  The dealer has tried numerous things and says that they are out of ideas.  In the event that HD does not offer a Fairing Lower Speaker configuration for my bike, please direct me to a system that you know that does work.

Thanks in advance

your bike should be able to be set up as the 2011 CVO Street glide with lower fairing speakers...thats where l believe they should look to see the config...

If it's not too late, DON'T PUT HD AUDIO PRODUCTS ON YOUR BIKE!  They perform poorly and are outrageously expensive.

Hogtunes has a 7" woofer kit with amp that works well in the lowers.  I think they promote it as a "woofer", but it's really just a full range speaker.

JM makes a 3 way 7.25" speaker for the lowers, but I haven't heard much positive feedback on those.

Unless money is no issue, my advice would be to not worry about the lower fairing speakers.  99% of what you'll hear on a moving motorcycle will be coming from the upper fairing speakers.  If you spend money to improve your sound system, put it into the upper speakers.  NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU SPEND, YOU AREN'T GOING TO GET AUDIOPHILE SOUND ON A BIKE GOING 70 MPH!  I put Biketronics 7" speakers and amp in my upper fairing, and now I can hear the music at 70mph, but at any speed above that, it's a real cacophony with the wind and road noise.  At 65 or less, the sound isn't too bad.  I've had rear bag speakers rear pod speakers, and either one can barely be heard.

Hope this helps.

well.. was it fixed?

and to Dan.. I disagree on all you've said here except the "don't put HD audio products on your bike" statement

1. I can hear mine perfectly at 80MPH
2. Rear speakers are a GREAT addition as long as you do it right
3. My rear pods and 6x9s lids will blow your mind at 80MPH
4. aside from HD, you've listed two of the worst speakers I would ever advise anyone NOT put on their bikes.  Overpriced and lack-luster performance at best.

my advice is if you need to do this in stages, do the speakers first.  Go big and go good.  Then move onto amplifier(s) when you're ready.
If you're only looking to do 2 speakers in the fairing, BT 7.1" and WRAP THEM WITH POLYFIL and put a PBR300x2 amp on them.  You've love it!

I put in the Hog tunes lower fairing speakers and separate amp (140w) added extra tweeters to the instrument cluster and upgraded the rest of the system to Hog tunes the original Harley amp (160w) 2 hog tunes amps 140w apiece extra tweeters, tricone speakers in the fairing new rear speakers and the HD ports to the tourpak. It does sound great even at 80mph, I do get some looks though when it's cranked. The original Harley system wasn't worth turning on if the bike was running, it sounded like mud.

I'm very happy with the J&M Rokkers/XTs in the Fairing/Vented Lowers, Rokker 500 4 ch Amp.

If you still have problems contact J&M as they have solutions...
