So what are the BMW grips or gloves or whatever called? If grips, can I install them? Whatever this is, it sounds good. I am nursey my grips along but they are not heating properly. My dealer tells me the replacement grips are due to ship December 7th.

2lane was referring to a permanent method of having an auxilliary connection to plug heated garments into. The BMW connection seems to be the standard for this stuff. I bought my heated gloves thru a BMW dealer as well. The gloves are Gerbing Model G-3 and their temp controller. This thread has the BMW dealer I got them from. I stayed away from the grips. It seems to make more sense and allows me to have the flexibility of heated hands on 2 or 3 different bikes as well. Hoist!

Good news.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] HD has had an awful lot of problems with these grips for many, many years now.  I have hears some of the elders complaining about them for more than seven years now. I mistakenly thought when I added mine to my bike two years ago, that they would have solved the issues, since other manufacturers do not have the same problems.

I had HotGrips on my bike. They work great, never failed. But they looked "plain".
So I took 'em off when HD came out with their heated grips.
Two failed sets later, I am back to my original "plain" HotGrips, and loving them.

I had taken my back to the HD Shop for warranty heated grips failure.  The Service Manager was very dissapointed because I have the "New" improved grips, but the heating element was fried and had to be replaced.  As long as they keep warrantying them, I can live with it.

My grips work good but they shock me every time I reach for the clutch or brake lever. I take the fuse out in the summer. It is not a very hard shock but is noticeable. They do it on or off. only way to stop it is to remove the fuse.

What'd the dealer say when you ask about warranting the problem?

With all the problems I heard about the grips I never mentioned it. I am just thankful they work.

I understand, sometimes it is just easier to go with the flow.  In just this little group of people I can remember:

Not working at all
Only working if turned in proper sequence with other item
Regularly blowing fuses
Multiple replacements
Working but just barely, not much heat
Getting shocked
and actually working as expected

All of them seem to have multiple instances.  So with that much issue it kind of makes sense to accept it.  Wait til the darn warranty is about to expire than make them fix every little thing you can find.

Ok, I'm taking action on how long this set of heated grips lasts on Mrs We's bike.
