2012 CVO front wheel
« on: May 14, 2014, 03:18:31 PM »

I have a friend that wants to use my original 2012 CVO wheel for his bike. He has a 2003 unltra and the bearings are not the same. The local Harley dealer told him Harley does not make a bearing to fit this wheel with his bike.

This is stupid. Does anyone know where he can find a bearing that fits?

Try a bearing house.  Sometimes bearing manufacturers make bearings that have the same O.D. and width with several different I.D.

i may be wrong, but i was under the impression that he could just use the bearings, axle, spacers, etc. that would be stock for his application.  the outer diameter of the bearing hasn't changed, just the inner diameter of the axle.  the fork lowers are the same from 1998 to 2013.

Tell him to swap out the axle and quit worrying about the bearings
The fork legs have not changed since 2000.  You can change the axle for about the same cost as swapping out the bearings
He may have trouble with brakes so he may need brembo calipers to make a 12wheel work

The axle worked but the brakes did get in the way. He decided to go back to his original wheel and not spend the money on the brake change over.

11.5 rotors on the 03
11.8 rotors on the 12
Different size axle spacers in diameter and length.
Different size axle. 03 1". 12 25MM

I've done this conversion using just the axle and spacers. I've also had to cut the rotors down on others. A quick pass on the lathe knocks the rotors right down to size.
