cvo breakout has the hick ups
« on: May 15, 2014, 09:50:43 AM »

Still in break in mode around 3000 to 3500 rpm 4th gear and up bike spits up backfires. At times it will do this in any gear. Does not seem to
Have the tourque that it should. My 103 would run circles around it.  So far dissapointed with  a $35000 toy.  Any suggestions? Dealer gonna work on it but what damage has already occurred. Last run with it ,I made to end of streer and it quit. Last time I heard a sound like that it was valve issues.  I hope HD stands to their warranty promises??

I had absolutely no problems (torque or backfire) with the stock bike before the dealer touched it for the 1000 miles service and installed the new pipes and stage I at the same time. After that the bike would backfire after a cold start but it was because the dealer had not tuned the bike properly. Took it back and they fixed the problem, which they said was an issue with the air/gas mixture.  :nixweiss: Another issue I had was after the dealer swapped out the gas tank (rust under the clear coat - 2500 miles on the bike) and in the process installed the fuel lines improperly (they said the gasket had moved during the install and was cutting off the fuel), causing the bike to hesitate and lose power around 2000-2500 RPM and run well above 2500+. Fixed in 5 minutes, again by the dealer.

Was your bike having these issues before the first dealer service?

Sounds like a lean condition.

If the shop that tuned the bike originally can't get it right, take it to Black Hills Custom Parts in Rockaway, N. J. Ken Puzio owner. One of the best in the northeast. 973 983 - 0200.

We recently sent one of our 98" builds from Nazareth, PA. over to 'ol Ken.
He'll give that a good tune up. :2vrolijk_21:

How many miles on the bike? You stated the bike quit, you were unable to get the bike started? Do you think it had a catastrophic engine failure? On a brand new bike you are covered fully under warranty. Did you have any mods added to the bike, pipes, tuner?

I'm having a very similar issue, but the dealer installed and tuned the bike on day of pick up.  If I'm in 5 or 6 gear and roll on throttle at about 2200rpm it falls on it's face and loses power until 3k and it picks back up.

Sounds like they need to "re-tune" it, or find a good independent shop in your area that tunes.

That's what I'm thinking Scott but I don't know any custom shops in Dallas area yet.  If they don't get it tuned correctly on this second try I'll go somewhere else.
