You would think they could set up a fly and ride program similar to high end European car makers to see your car/scoot come off line and take it home!!

Like Corvettes also.  You can take delivery of your new 'Vette at the plant - for an extra charge, of course.

I know of some dealers that offer this (Barnett's in Texas comes to mind), but if memory serves me correctly the price they charge for their bikes is way more then MSRP. So for this feature (in the case of H-D) the end user usually pays. :-/

In order to tour the CVO Area a tour needs to arranged through a dealer.  I took a tour last year with Appalachian HD...we toured the main plant and then went through the CVO line.  They were building SE Ultras and SE Fat Boys on two lines...two people supposedly assemble each bike from start to finish, takes under three hours for each bike.

Can you image HD allowing deliveries at the plant, they would have to have a service facility there to fix all the issues!!!!!  For '06 a full time paint facility would have been required.  Dealers need to do the final prep on each bike before turning it over to a customer.

Ditto, I did it last March 2006 with my dealer tight through both the main and CVO plant but still cool. Funny thing was these small women putting the CVO's together. I mean if you saw one of them at a bar and she said she built CVO's you would never believe it. Now I would.
Try your dealer. W had 20+ people from our dealer for the tour.
Good luck. [smiley=apple.gif] [smiley=cucumber.gif] [smiley=mango.gif] [smiley=pepper.gif] [smiley=pineapple.gif]

It pretty much has to be arranged and with a rather large group.
There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes and a lot of sampling.  So the goups have to be planned so everything can be put away before the tour begins and then pulled out once the tour has gone through.  Wouldn't want any experimental parts/bikes laying around for public's eye to see ya know.   ::)
Cheers!

After reading about some of the different QC issues, I thought it would be good to look at it before it left the plant, before they crate it. I'm gonna ask my dealer. Maybe they can set up the visit. Probably a pipe dream though. Hoist!

Hey Hoist , can ya take a look at mine while you're at it.

Mine'll be the CACO SERK with the Newcatle upon Tyne, England label on it.

Give her a pat and wish her bon voyage on her trip across the Atlantic !

Hoist,

Any update on the tour idea?  I would be willing to get to York to take a tour.

I did the same when they were building my boat up in KS.  However, Cobalt is much more customer friendly than the MoCo.  I actually got to the boat tour a day late, as my boat was already completely assembled and I did get to see it in the get ready phase.

For the CVO tour, it looks like you need a big group.  As of now, we have 2! :)

What do you have in mind. I was trying to go there to inspect my bike on the assembly line at completion. I found out that's not possible. If we can arrange a group CVO Line tour at the plant, I'd be up for that. I'd wait til spring to ride there. ;) Hoist!
