The coating is falling off the underside of the engine. I haven't had it to the dealer yet but has anyone had this issue and how was it handled?
Just getting ready for a fight. 2013 CVO breakout with 3500 miles shouldn't have most of the coating gone under the bike. Can't see it unless you jack it up but the aluminum seems to be corroded under the missing coating. fairly large area 2-3" by the width of the case.

Harley wanted the dealer to paint it with a spray can. The dealer pushed back and said "this is a CVO and there is no way we are doing that to a customers bike" Harley is sending someone to look at it on 5-29-14.

I wander what the choices are now...New motor or new cases. Still need the rear fender, rear rim and tank replaced. Rust on the fender and tank and chrome flaking on the real wheel.

Very disappointed in the Quality of the CVO. My 07 FXSTC held up much better and looked like the day I bought it when I traded it at 6 years old.

Well the Harley rep showed up a day early so I rode the bike to the dealer. He looked it over and said "I'll make some inquiries but no promises". "I'm not sure what Harley is going to due but they can be real tough on warranty issues"

How pathetic is that? Wasted 2 hours of my time and still no answers or even any hope something will be done. Well Ohio has pretty strong lemon laws and this fits the description. They fix it or I sue them. The best part is Harley pays for my attorney even if I don't win the law suit. I'm quite sure I would win though.

I would do it...  Please, don't accept spray paint, in a couple of months or years, more paint will come of the engine again.....

For the pice of that bike, you could almost get 2 Toyotas....  Perfection should be expected.....

Latest update: They approved fixing the rear fender but said it had to go back to Gunslinger. I guess Harley is not going to pay for poor paint work. No word on the Tank, Chrome rear wheel or wrinkle coat on the engine. I told them they had until June 6th when I get the 5K service done to have an answer on the rest or I was contacting an attorney.

I need a new rear tire and can't see putting a new tire on a damaged rim and paying for the tire change when the rear rim has chrome flaking off. I will have to wait until the end of the riding season for the rear fender or let it sit at the dealer 4-6 weeks for the fender.

I'm guessing they will send the tank back to Gunslinger as well but seems like they should order the parts now and deal with Gunslinger on the cost.
As for the engine I will not accept spray paint so either new cases or new engine. Their choice!!

There are a few good stories about warranties but yours my friend, is a sad one.  Cant imagine how you feel with all those problems with your bike let alone having to threaten legal action. HD should be ashamed of themselves. The f$%*ing dealers and the company. Disgusting.

I really love riding the Breakout and did a 14 hour ride over two days to NY last week. I was shocked how comfortable I felt doing 7 hours a day in the saddle. It was very relaxing and I did not get fatigued as would happen after about 2 hours on my previous bike (Softail Custom).

The bike still drew a crowd whenever I stopped but I felt myself wishing that no one looked to close. No one did but it is sad when you have to fight just to get what you paid for.

Harley has always required the CVO paint vendors to take care of paint defects, it's not something new with Gunslinger.  But in the past the vendor shipped the new part (often a repainted return from another customers bike) to the dealer first, and then the dealer returned your defective part to the paint vendor.  I think I would insist it be handled that way this time as well.  You bought the bike from H-D, not Gunslinger, and H-D is responsible to you for the warranty.  You should not be expected to endure weeks of downtime for them to have the dealer remove, return to Gunslinger to repaint and then return to your dealer the original defective part.  It's Harley's problem how they account for warranty costs with their vendors, and they have no right to stick you in the middle.  Maybe that discussion with a lawyer isn't such a bad idea if they persist in this BS.

Good advice indeed. I had not thought of it from that angle but it makes sense and I'm going to insist that Harley and not Gunslinger make good on the warranty.

I had the same experience when I went to visit 2k in NC, 1100+ miles over three days and no aches and pains at all. Also this past weekend I rode over to Clifton for the antique bike show and the BO was a bigger hit than the antiques and various and sundry baggers and metrics. It's just a great-looking bike.

You are having way too many problems with this particular bike, which is very different from my personal experience. The only paint issue I had, rust on the tank, was fixed within 3 weeks of being reported to HD and so far no other problems whatsoever.

I don't remember if you mentioned contacting HD customer service directly. My experience with the direct interaction was very positive. The dealer was giving me a hard time about the rust so I called HD customer service. They asked for a picture of the problem area, which I emailed to them. Within 24 hours they called me to tell me I have a new tank for the bike and wanted to know which dealer I want them to send it to so it can be replaced.

Harley has agreed to replace the tank, rear fender and rear wheel. they will not budge on the powder coating under the engine and will only offer to have the dealer spray paint it.

I really need everyone's help on this. If you have had a similar issue and had a better result can you please let me know who you may have talked to at Harley.
